Hey coyote hunters, I was thinking of buying a Ruger American Predator .223 for coyote hunting at ranges from 100 yards to 300 yards.

Does anybody have this riffle? How accurate is it? Is it at least 1MOA?

I heard some of these guns can be fussy, I will reload, but I'm hopping to get 1 MOA.

If I knew they are not that accurate, I'd probable buy a Tikka or Weatherby Vanguard.

Looking for advice.

For the price....x4, Howa/Vanguard are far better made rifles.
American shares just about everything with an Axis except they are 2-3x the price.

Well, to answer your question and not jump on the howa/vanguard train, my dads american in 204 is a sub moa gun. I find it to be a great rifle.

I have three Ruger Americans... The Ranch in both 5.56 and 300 BLK and the Predator in .243.
I really like all three and find them all very accurate - the best being the 5.56 with the others close by in terms of accuracy.

Don't listen to the bashers. Too many snobs on here. The Predator has a much better twist rate that the Howa or Weatherby - stabilizes heavier bullets better.

Am not bashing the Ruger I seen them and just like the Weatherby better - owned my Weatherby for a few years now - have a BC stock (thanks to a CGN member) and now am perfecting a load that will shoot 1 inch groups (5 shot) around an inch at 200 yards using 55g Sierra's. My next 308 will be a HOWA (Heavy Barrel) and possibly another 223.

Not snobbish to point out the crappy American stock, #### metal work, and #### mags lol.
Seriously, they make an Axis look like a high end firearm. I've had 2 Americans, and one Axis... I'd own another Axis, but never another American. The retail price is literally insulting for what those guns are.

OP,

The American is decent, the Vanguard is decent, the Tikka is decent.

Look for the features that you want (feel are a necessity) and the rifle that fits you well. Accuracy can usually be worked out with some ammo changes or handloading.

I've had a couple Americans and my BIL has the Ranch in 223. They do the job, accuracy has been good, and they are by no means a crap rifle.
