Value difference in used Glocks by Generation?

Just curious - the EE here is not a great indicator, I think, as there are usually only Gen3 and Gen4 glocks for sale most days - but is there much difference in value on the used market between the various generations?

I see Gen4 guns selling for SLIGHTLY more than the average Gen3. How are the Gen2 and Gen1 guns stacking up?

Are Gen1 guns sought out for collections or something?

Are Gen2's prized for the grips without finger grooves?

you get the idea - what are ppl's thoughts?

I expect here in Canada, almost nobody cares if a Glock has an accessory rail or not (?)

Some sellers list gen 1s and 2s at higher prices, probably for some collector value. I've never been willing to pay more for an older model

I've always owned gen 3s myself, but I might be tempted to get a gen 5 when they come out

FWIW the Gen 4 pistols ship with three magazines where the older models shipped with two. That is mostly the reason the Gen 4 pistols cost a little more.

Given all conditions equal, the earlier gens are cheaper than the recent gens.

I'm curious. We can't concealed carry or keep a glock in the nightstand with a flashlight on it like an American would.

What would you ever use the rail for, other than for playing with lights/lasers for range fun? I'm thinking that would get old fast (?)

I've got a Gen 2 Glock 17 and have wondered the same thing actually. What's it worth compared to these newer models? Do these guns retain their value or is everyone looking for the latest and greatest?

A friend of mine has a Gen2 G17 that I shoot alongside my Gen4 G34 fairly regularly. It is a very nice pistol - the plastic is a little smoother, the lack of finger grooves is fantastic, and the tennifer is exactly how you remember it - thick, robust. I would happily buy a Gen2 if it was in nice shape, but I wouldn't pay any more than a used current-gen pistol. The novelty isn't worth a big premium, I think.

I'm excited to buy a Gen5 and compare it directly to the Gen2.

You actually can keep a glock in your night stand provided it's legally stored.

I have one with a light on it.

The club I belong too organises and let us organise evening low light/no light shoot so rail mounted lights are quite useful. Its very fun to shoot in those conditions

In Canada, that is pretty much the only legal reason to own handguns - "range fun"

Yes, but my range fun is making holes in things, not mounting stuff that I don't need in daylight. To each his own but I bet less than 1% of Canadian Glock owners are using their rail.

I have never put anything on any of my railed pistols, just not my thing.

I think it is way higher than 1%

Be interesting to see how many holsters a company like Solcan sells that are compatible with lights

You don't see a lot of gen 1's but gen 2s are cheapest usually because they're not really uncommon and older /higher milage then gen 3 and 4. Recently Glock prices have plumited a bit and now gen 4s are close to gen 3 in pricing but latest models are more expensive.

Gen 5 will be the cat's meow to me, but otherwise I prefer gen 2. The finger grooves don't fit me at all.

I didn't really understand people's disdain for rails as it pertains to Glocks. When you're taking about a 226, then yes, it completely changes the look of the gun. But the Glock rail is so seamless that you barely notice it's there unless you're looking for it.

On a rail related note. One of my pistols wears a light at all times.

Same here! I have a Gen 2 Glock 21.I bought it brand new, and put 20 rounds through it.

The rail on the newer guns is well executed and snag-free, I agree. I just prefer the lines of rail-less. It would not stop me from buying a railed Glock if I needed a new plastic gun.
