Give Me Your Recommedations for Shotgun Deer Gun

ok, I have done many hunts with my trusty 870 12 gauge pump.

I want more accuracy, lighter gun, leaning towards 20 guage auto loader.

Let me know what you recommend, budget is $1800 or so.

thanks freddy! Very interested you your scope choice! Nice dedicated bolt gun like the 220 might be the answer.
 
A buddy is also contemplating a 20ga semi as recoil bothers him in his golden years. Can't find an H&R anymore but he may wait now for the new CVA with 24" rifled barrel but probably be next year before they show up here.
 
The ultimate deer shotgun isn't a shotgun. Buy the savage 220. It's basically a rifle that shoots a saboted 50cal bullet.
Browning makes one too. Bit more pricey though

If you still trying to stick in the shotgun style get a gun with a fully rifled, cantilever barrel and scope it.
 
Yes be selective in the weight of the gun you choose. 20 gauge are noticeably lighter and that can some times lead to more felt recoil than even a 12 gauge. For best recoil absorption semi autos are your best option.

I discovered this with a Mossberg 500. 12 vs 20 the 12ga was much softer recoiling! Go figure
 
You also don't need 3" magnums for deer slugs.i shot a mulie doe at about 75 yards with a H+R 20ga modified choke bird gun and a Rem Foster slug.It was double lunged ,went 3 body lengths and collapsed with a through and through bullet wound.Harold

I would use the one in my locker or safe, but if one needs to spend money on a new shot gun then maybe an Remington 1100 or 11-87 with synthetic stock maybe in order.
Thats just me though.

In a change barrel gun, like a pump or semi people have their barrels pinned to the receiver for better accuracy in their dedicated slug guns..........Tar Hill makes custom BA's.Harold
 
870's and 11-87's are decently accurate but triggers are terrible. Dedicated slug guns such as the savage or browning a-bolt are the best options for accuracy and good triggers which go hand and hand. Don't let anyone tell you a 20 gauge is as effective as a 12 either because it is definitely not true. 20 is more recoil friendly for sure with a huge energy deficit.
 
I shot a ethics deer slayer 3 in 20g. Wow one inch groups at 100 yards all day .if it was not over a grand I would have bought it
