ive read that a .458 SOCOM rifle uses AR-15 receivers. have any of you built one? if so, where did you find the BCG, barrel and muzzle device? i would like to build one but im having a tough time finding these parts.

I never built one but bought a CMMG Anvil in .458. Rock River Arms sells a complete upper which you can order in from AZ Tech armory.com and bolt on to your AR-15 lower

458 sounds very interesting but be aware of the RCMP bulletin stating that any magazines other than the 223 LAR pistol mags are prohibited if they hold more than 5 rounds of 223. So even though it hasn't made it officially into being law yet you are limited to 2 rounds of 458 just like if it was 50 Beowulf.
As Brian suggests, converting a non restricted would be more practical, spending all that money and being trapped at the range making bigger holes in paper makes less sense than being able to use the extra power for hunting.

It is, but after doing a lot of conversions, the Remington 30AR in a NR rifle is the only one I would likely do again

As a practical hunting cartridge in a non restricted semi auto black rifle that fits the 223 size cartridges I would stick to the 30AR or the 6.5 Grendel, but it all depends what the OP wants to do with the rifle. I'm a big fan of 300BLK, I own 2 of them but have owned five different ones in the past and it has done everything I've asked of it. If he just wants to smash the heck out of gongs and is willing to pay for the ammo or handload for it then the 458 may be just as good.

Sometimes you have to shut off the practical part of the brain and just go with what you want. Lol, I'm trying to learn this myself :p
