I finally bit the bullet and got myself a dedicated trap gun - a new (to me) Browning BT99 Plus with 34 inch ported barrel, adjustable stock & rib, as well as recoil reducing stock! I bought it from a fellow who shot trap every week so it's probably seen about 50 000 rounds - are there any items I should be looking to replace as wear items? I'm very happy with the gun so far and it points and shoots wonderfully and locks up solid with the top lever sitting slightly right of center.

Does anybody know where I could look up the serial number to find out when the gun was made?

Thanks!

Excellent gun. I shoot regularly with a couple of guys and a couple of girls that shoot BT99's. I've never seen anything break on those guns and two of them easily have 50,000 rounds through. One old guy has shot over 100,000 registered targets and a lot of them through his BT99. Sounds like the locking block is good on your gun if the lever is right of centre. If you are really serious about it you might replace the springs and firing pin but I would shoot it until something breaks. You might be surprised how many rounds you put through it.

You didn't buy an ordinary BT-99 you bought an all original BT-99 Plus right down to the factory recoil reduction system with factory recoil pad!! They are superb quality and were years ahead of their time in my opinion. You're going to love it. Browning USA still has parts for them including the recoil assembly and rib. Enjoy your new gun, you made an excellent purchase! Congratulations!!

So far I can only agree with you! It's so much nicer than my pump gun after 100 rounds or so, and my first two rounds with the gun I broke 20!

serial number should be under the top thumb lever.

When I was about 6 or 7 years old and I didn't understand those guns, I thought I wanted one cause they looked cool.
I wanted to hunt ducks with it LOL.
Anyways, when I became educated I still thought they looked cool , but learned they belonged on the trap line.
I decided clay birds prolly didn't taste as good as a fat Malllard drake , but I still appreciate the beauty of a Beautifull mono barrelled trap gun such as yours.
How does she shoot for you?
Have you done any fit adjustments?
Would be cool to hear of a first 25 in the near future.
Best Regards and Smash those Clays!

Had it out today and shot 18, 20, 22 in some interesting wind conditions! I haven't adjusted anything and I'm not sure I need to as when I mount the gun with my eyes closed and then open them the rib is lined up nicely!

I have noticed however that the top lever moves from the recoil when I fire, perhaps the spring needs to be replaced? I'll have to find a gunsmith in the Halifax area to have a look at it.
