What are my options for .22lr handgun in $500 range ?

My daughter is 12 and enjoys shooting . I currently don`t have a 22 and hate to borrow all the time . The 38 spl is a bit much for her at this time .

Kicking myself for selling my Model 89 .
 
Highly suggest a GSG 1911 .22 and a ZRTS performance kit. Should be around your price range and will be very reliable and a ton of fun.
 
GSG 1911, ISSC M22, and Alfa Project revolvers. Google those and go from there. I'm sure there's more options but they are the main ones in your price point. Pink versions available in the first two listed.
 
I support the GSG 1911 with the ZRTS kit which I've had for nearly 2 years (1,500 through the pipe without even the slightest problem).
However, I can also highly recommend the Grand Power K22S (see pick). Absolutely great pistol with four interchangeable back straps to fit any hand shape. Very accurate and extremely easy to disassemble, more so than the GSG 1911. It is sold now by SFRC for $509.95 with two mags.

You can't go wrong with an older Ruger MK3. Lots of options to modify down the road, parts are everywhere, and they are accurate. The GSG is pretty heavy and the triggers aren't anything to write home about.
 
My kids both shoot a Browning 1911-22. It's perfect for kids hands, honestly it is one of the pistols that always goes to the range because everyone likes shooting it.
 
M93 for some one with small hands and is weight sensitive.

4.5" S&W 422 is the next step up.

Love my GSG but the wife claims it's too heavy (shoots weak handed).

S&W MP22 are pretty light, but has really crude sights in my experience.

Love my Smith 22s 17 and 617. Again on the heavy side. Wife can't shoot revolvers due arthritic thumbs.

Alpha Proj revolvers look interesting.

Could suggest some other revolvers but you get the gist.

Is the .38 too much recoil, too heavy a gun, or both? If weight is a factor look for a used Ruger 22/45 Lite.

Just to follow up on this - if it's because your .38 is too heavy/large, ignore this - if it's recoil, get some lightly loaded PPC rounds, for your revolver. The recoil is really soft. My daughter was using these rounds in an S&W Model 10, when she was 11 years old and she was on the petite side. I've used this round numerous times, for "new" shooters - it gives a rather satisfying little "poof", when it goes off.
 
You should be able to find a used .22lr Sig P226 Classic in you budget. When she's ready to move up in cal buy a 9mm conversion kit. Dad might enjoy the combo too.....

She tried the 38 with lite loads . But the model 64 is a bit heavy for her .

Browning Buck Mark Black Label Contour 2 lbs 3.5 oz
Ruger Single Six 4.6" barrel 1 lbs 15.5 oz
Ruger GP 100 2 lbs 15.5 oz
GSG 1911 2 lbs 1 oz

All these guns are great shooters and the weight in hand (where the weight sits furthest back) is best with the GSG and then the SW Victory which can be had for $470 right now. If GSG is more your thing, let me know, selling one of mine.
