Was it a 3 year old kid who drew that? It must be some type of alien deer with innards located like that! LoL
Non typical mule deer generally have their kidneys located near their a$$hole. Nothing new.![]()
The issue with the shoulder shot is that if you hit a bit too far forward, you get the brisket and a potentially wounded animal. Directly behind the shoulder leaves the most room for error and destroys the least amount of meat. But I realize this is the internet and everyone always hits exactly where they aim.![]()

I understand. First day of rifle season here. I just got back from a morning hunt. I didn't see any deer today but it's sure nice to get out.It can easily be 100+ posts hard. Remember, it is just about the beginning of the season when guys are at the height of shack-wackiness.
These types of threads are entertaining, hunters willing to throw other hunters under the bus over their opinion of proper shot placement based on their own skill levels not the shooters without batting an eye
I have been known to take an animal or two with the 50, people have opinions about that too.You are the 50 BMG fella aren't you?.

I hunt within my own limitations, I tell others to do the same. If a hunter has any morals it should only take one gut shot or Columbian necktie as you put it to make them seriously re think their skill set as a hunter and self correct. I will offer up suggestions, but that is not what I see happening here by the posts, It is pretty much an attack against any hunter who takes a head or neck shot because of a "this one time I saw" scenarios. Because you have seen a wounded or wasting animal does not mean it was a missed shot, more often have I seen people shoot through one animal and hit another behind it because of "buck fever". May also have something to do with everyone thinking they need a "magnum"
I hope that anyone who finds wounded game or ones shot and wasted reported it, that is what I do along with descriptions of all the hunters I have seen in the area.
