Do any of you shotgun pros and experts have any info on this shotgun? its an over under 20g sidelock.. has very detailed scrolling..

the barrels are fixed chockes and has double triggers..

any info would be greatly appreciated..

i'll post a pic as soon as I figure out how.. its been a long time since i posted on CGN

My google came up with several auction sites and of course they are all favorable reports.
Box Lock?
If its less expensive or affordable buy it and shoot it if you fancy a SxS.

thanks FLHTCUI... I found a couple on some auction sites too, but they both came up as "no longer available" and no information.. do you have a link to the sites you found?.. I'm trying to sell this shotgun for a friend as part of an estate sale.. i've been told its a really expensive firearm.. just trying to figure out what its worth.. any links will be greatly appreciated..

If you are trying to establish an appropriate price, we can't help in any meaningful way without pics. Value will be based on original quality and current condition along with the brand value of Mahillion.

Mahillion made some very nice guns, FYI. But the NA market doesn't assign a lot of value to the higher quality Belgian makers, relative to English or American makers names.

Here's a list of the top makes from Liege, Belgium. Guns with these names are definitely not JABC guns...... Bernard, Brancquaert Britte, Jules Bury, Christoph, Courally, Defourny, Donckier, Francotte, Forgerone, Galand, Janssen, Lajot, Mahillon, Masquelier & Thirifays.

On average, a gun of equivalent original quality and current condition by one of these makers/names will be worth half of what the same gun by the top London makers (Purdey, H & H, Boss and Woodward) will fetch. Branding is important!

edit to add: BTW, that "half the value of a London gun" isn't some guess on my part. It's the result of a long term (10 years plus) analysis of actual auction results in North America and in Britain.

I'd be interested in it myself because I love Belgian guns but.....two strikes....it's an O/U and its a 20 gauge. Don't buy either.

Thanks Canvasback for the information.
As I said the Google search I attempted was less than stellar .
Guns America and several others had mentioned just box lock actions and hence my lack of useful assistance.
Rob

Happy to help. It's highly likely all you found through google were SxS so that's probably why you were thinking SxS. The number of O/U they made would have been substantially fewer. Same for the gauge.

Is it a SXS or O\U ?

Okay, we didn't get proofs nor a good look at the quality of the grain and figure of the stock. Just going from these pics I'd say it's a post WWI gun for sure and if it weren't for the engraving, I'd say post WWII. With the proofs we should be able to date to the year.

The engraving is extremely similar to a higher grade Pieper I sold last year, leading me to consider this gun may have been manufactured for Mahillion by Pieper, which fits as Mahillion was primarily a retailer of guns and not a maker. It looks like a step down in quality from the pre WWI Mahillion sidelock SxS guns that one can find on the net. I don't follow O/U pricing so others will have to step in here.

Pricing on a gun of this quality level..... nicely made shooter.....will be greatly affected by it's shootable qualities.....LOP, chokes, barrel length, chamber length etc. As well as an assessment of it's condition, specifically are there any problems not evident in the pics? These details are needed. As are good pics of both sides of the stock.....close ups of chequering through the wrist, proof marks on barrel flats as well as marks ahead of the flats. And all pics need to be close up enough that we can really see detail.
