I just scored a new Savage Mark II FV from Canadian Tire for $225 and a Bushnell Trophy XLT 6-18x50 for $200. Ordered a set of Warne Maxima high scope rings from Amazon and I should be all set. Well, except for the chin weld. I was thinking a Tac-Pro kydex cheek rest but at around $70 shipped I think I'll just run it as is for now and save the money for a Boyds Pro Varmint or Rimfire Hunter stock upgrade down the road.
 
On the cheap you could cut up a strips of foam from a camping mattress (or something similar in density) and then build it up in height by stacking foam strips. Then electrical tape them together into a one piece cheek riser. Lastly buy a $5 nylon butt cuff and slide it over the stock and it'll hold down the cheek riser. It'll also add some weight to the rear of the rifle as with the FV variant, the barrel is heavier and the rifle tends to be muzzle heavy.
 
I put the cheap lace on Blackhawk! Cheekpad from Amazon on my M305 build. 3"x5" or so strip of skateboard tape on top of the stock to give it some bite and the cheekpad hasn't come loose once.
 
Get a $5-10 centerfire bullet buttstock sleeve. Add grey foam for copper pipe for height like on my tikka. Cut stitching out of every 2nd shell holder and use as mag holder like my trr. Cheap, feels great and doesn't look like #### imo

Chin weld.... you could always do what I did a while back and pick up a tube of JB plastic weld. It is a 2 part putty that you kneed together and it has the consistency of play dough. I wanted to have a higher comb on a shotgun stock so used the whole piece shaped and stuck it on the stock to the height I wanted. Afterwards I filled it in then sprayed it with some bed liner. It worked perfectly, don't have the gun anymore but I would do the same thing again if needed.

I found the rifle to be very front heavy because of the heavy barrel. I filled the stock with silicone, a little at a time to let it set and solidify plus added a kydex cheek rest because it sucked without it haha. But now its solid and performs and feels very nice, no hollow stock noise!
 
I ended up ordering a Tac Pro cheek rest but then my wonderful wife saw me looking at the Boyds Evolution in Royal Jacaranda that is on sale right now at Boyds and ordered one for me!
 
Now I'm feeling like maybe I over scoped this one...

Fantastic lil guns, have FV models for my kids, which I take out to play with while they're at school, haha, amazed each time.

Great lil guns, those FVs. I cleaned up a couple for a farmer friend after a few years of rattling around in tractors and trucks. Took em out back to tune up scopes, and shot groups as small as .2"! I'm not sure how many .22s I have, but if I was buying one that's what I'd be looking at.

Depends on what your doing with it, if all it sees is a bench you'll love the higher power scope. If you end up hunting with it, you might find it to much. I find myself wanting more on my heavy barrelled xt22 when shooting for groups with a 3x9 but walking around in the woods the 3x9 is perfect, I think a 4-12 power might be the right balance for it. I have that on my deer rifle and it's great.
 
Got to the range for the first time today. To say the least I am very pleased. I was not very consistent today but managed more groups at 50 yards under 0.5" than over. This was the best group today:

0.1215" at 50 yards using Fiocci Standard Velocity

I was running the Fiocchi Std Velocity, CCI Std Velocity, CCI Blazer and Federal Champion 525 bulk. The Fiocchi and CCI Std Velocity were pretty close and the Federal as usual was dreadful (closer to 2 MOA). The local Canadian Tire had a bunch of Eley ammo last time I was in there so I think I am going to pick some up to try out. I'm going to need some more practice so I can try the 5 groups under 0.5" at 50 yard challenge. The rifle clearly is capable but right now I am the limiting factor.
 
You definitely hit the savage lottery.

There is only I think 7 or 8.. Definitely under 10. Savage rifles on the 130 person long list to hit the challenge.
 
No more chin weld! Shout out to CzyHorse who provided the heads up in another thread that these were on sale at Boyds. I realize that I could have just bought a Mark II BV from the get go and saved some hassle but as I got everything on sale my FV with all the Boyds goodies still works out to be cheaper.
