I have been seriously looking for a .22 hornet that last while. Something about old classic cartridges cranks my engine. Although there are superior cartridges out there I think the .22 hornet would be a great coyote cartridge paired with a accurate rifle. A cz is likely what I will purchase although from what I have seen in photos the Bruno with dual set trigger would be a true classic. What is the likely hood of finding one? If someone has one how does it stack up with the later cz. A anschutz would be great but costly and the zastava is nice however the magazine is unslightly. Any input on a classic looking hornet would be great.

Ive got an old ZK465 here in NZ, lovely rifle, and a bit more "character" to it than a CZ. Shoots PPU ammo ok, but am having trouble finding a recipe for reloading. It certainly don't like the ZMax 40 gner's. Excellent rifles, well worth looking out for, and that set trigger is so very crisp and light.

I used to have a brno with the set triggers and I loved it but I traded up for a Browning low wall. That's my idea of a classic If you want a brno try a wtb ad and good luck.

You could also try to find an old Savage 342 in 22 Hornet. Classic rifle in walnut and steel! I have my Grandfather's and it is a beautiful rifle and shoot really well.

I have owned many Hornets, Savage,Rem.Ruger, Browning, all fun. I use a Ruger#3 most and just gave my son a very accurate Browning micro medallion. I would buy another Browning. Lots rechamber to K Hornet to save brass. I've never had a problem. I have used this cartridge for colling coyotes but it is light for over 100yds.

My Dad has a Brno modded to k-Hornet and it's deadly accurate. Has had the gun for probably 35yrs.

Put an amazing 5 shot group into .75" at 200M two weeks ago, best group ever at that distance.

Can get .5" at 100M often. Double set trigger is amazing for precision and it's just a really well made rifle.

I've always had good luck with between 9.5 and 10gr of IMR4227 (depending on lot) and a 45gr RNSP (either WW or Rem bulk), though lately I've been getting fantastic results, both groups and velocity, out of L'il Gun @ 12.6gr with the same bullet - just don't try to "magnumize" it and they last for ever...

I too have a ZKW465 BRNO , old as, 1949-51 model for sure.... My Grandfathers. its a little Gem.

ammo is Pricey here, and I don't reload for it yet... don't shoot it either but it is begging for a scope and some Foxes!

I don't care for the long magazines of the CZ and Brno, so found a nice walnut and blued Ruger 77/22 Hornet. Haven't shot it much, but seems to shoot well, and the flush rotary mag is much nicer.

I currently own 2 Hornets. A Ruger 1B and a customized Ruger #3. Either of these make a great varmint gun in my opinion. Both of these can be tough to find though. A repeater could be an advantage in some situations.
My coyote gun tends to be whatever rifle I have in my hands when I see a coyote.

"Something about old classic cartridges cranks my engine."

Build a .222 Remington... it is old enough now to be a classic and it will be more accurate than any .22 Hornet has ever been and suitable to 250 yards on a coyote.

The 22 Hornet is about the coolest little round there is. I have a Savage Model 25 Walking Varminter. Very fine accuracy with the right handload. My rifle likes Hornady 50gr SP bullets and Lil Gun powder. :d

I have a beat up old Winchester Model 43 that my dad used to regularly slay Vancouver Island blacktails with using iron sights.

He tagged out in one day once. I have photo of him with three deer laid out behind the car. Of course all three fit in the trunk of a 1964 Malibu sedan.

I have that rifle now, scoped it and the first time I went to shoot it I thought the safety was on. Boy is that a terrible trigger.

I don't know how he could shoot that thing.

And that trigger in not adjustable.

It's not much of a coyote round, the bullet drops like an arrow

Most of the replies to this point we're about rifles. If you were calling, picked close cover, limiting shots to 150 yards. Then the hornet would be.fine.

I think there are better predator calibers.....223 and 22-250 spring to mind. Dennis suggested 222, if the OP is set on Brno/CZ I know a lot of older rifles are in triple deuce.

Great old round the Hornet. One needs to understand it's limitations. If your buying a purpose use rifle, why deal with those limitations?

If you are thinking hornet, look at a 17 too. Not saying the 22 is bad but after shooting both (but never owning either) I like the 17 better.

That being said, I love my CZ527 and would recomend one to a friend.

Also depends on how accurate you want and if you're interested in hand-loading to get the best you can.

All valid points. I do have a sako in 222 it's a beauty but it's a bit to much for smaller game like gophers. I
Have 22 mag cz that's great for the gophers but not quite there for the yotes. A hornet seems like a nice middle varmint gun
