Any opinions? The vortex viper is the discontinued model 3-9x40 1" tube vs the current Elite 3500 3-9x40. Im leaning towards the viper, but I would just like input for piece of mind.

I have had both scopes recently. The Viper 3-9x40 doesn't have any tactical stuff. Both scopes have great optics, I give the edge slightly to the Viper with the level of brightness and eye relief. A 4500 Bushy to me was more of a match optically to the Viper. I prefer the lift to reset turrets on the Viper vs the remove screws and reset version on the 3500. Both a very good scopes, I think the Bushnell is better built, has a good warranty and the Rainguard coating that really works. I think the Bushy will last you a life time, didn't feel that confidant about the Viper.

Look through them both, pick the one that your eye is most comfortable with. Good deals out there on both.

I have a 3200 3-9x40 on my primary hunting rifle. Good clear optics, no complaints after years of use.
If you want the 'target' type turrets and bullet drop compensator get a 4500 or up.

I have both and neither of them compare with my Nikon Coyote Special, it outclasses both of them by miles, clearer, brighter and faster target acquisition under any circumstances.

I recently picked up a Bushnell Elite 3500 3-9x40mm from Frontier Firearms on sale for $240. For the price I figured it wasn't worth comparing to anything else. My optics knowledge is minimal and I just wanted a simple scope for my Ruger American. I've used a 3200 before and was impressed with the clarity. Bushnell and Vortex have the same 'no questions asked' warranty so they're a wash there.

Thats where I was looking, on frontier. Seems like a great deal! And even cheape for the stainless version @ $220

Thanks for the input guys

one thing i've noticed with the lower end bushnell scopes is a very limited amount of internal adjustment. Depending on the type/range of shooting you're doing you might want to get an angled scope mount, or some bushnell signature zee rings with inserts.
