Finally looking to buy a AR-15. Narrowed my search to a few ARs and need some input.

DD M4A1 14.5"
DD MK18
Advanced Armament 300 blackout 12.5"

Pros? Cons? Any personal feedback?

Thanks

DDMK18 gets my vote.

Its a very solid compact AR15 that will run whatever you put it thru. Never experience any failure with mine. Some people did complaint about the muzzle blast... It didnt affect me directly and had my friend shooting beside me and didnt find it bad at all.

I suggest a 14.5 carbine or Mid length for your first AR15. 15.7 or 16 is also fine.
The reason I would go with this is most optics are calibrated for drop compensation on the 14.5 barrels (standard 62 gr ammo) Optics like the ACOG, Elcan Spectre etc.
You will also find it shoots better at all round ranges.

The 10.5 or 11.5 SBR is great. BUT, get that upper later. Its a CQBR weapon that shoots fine out to 200-300, but doesnt fill the do all niche. The 10.5 mk18 can be picky with ammo as well. (then comes the entire buffer weight tweaking conversation)

I don't think you can go wrong with any other them, but the 300blk will cost about twice as much to run and ammo is much harder to come by.

300BLK is a waste of money and time if you can't hunt with it or suppress it.

The Mk18 is cool but short barrels like that on the MK18 suffer accelerated gas port erosion and as mentioned can be finicky with ammo.

The 14.5" is pretty slick, keep in mind if you ever wish to take your rifle the good old USA you need to pin and weld your flash hider to meet the 16" overall length, or just use a 16" barreled rifle.

Yeah i was leaning more to the DD M4A1 14.5 and it does come with the permanent flash hider that makes it 16" total, however i was told they snap off quite easily. I was advised to grab a s&w m&p 15 and just run the crap out of it. But honestly i have the means to get a quality AR for the money so why not. Any other suggestions as to optics or accessories?

To be fair, the entire AR platform more or less falls under that "waste of time and money" heading up here. Sometimes it's nice to have something a little different than everyone else at the range.

If you can afford it, by all means I wouldn't hesitate for a second buying a DD! Enjoy!

Perfect, so basically I can get the 14.5 DD m4a1 and later on can purchase a SBR upper 10.5 for it? Also the flash hider on the barrel is permanent does that matter?

Yes, you can pick up a mk18 upper later down the road and slap it on your m4a1's lower.

As for the pinned flash hider, no it technically doesn't matter up here unless you plan to take it south of the border.
Me personlly, I'd probably be getting it unpinned to replace the boring A2 flash hiders that come with it, but that's just me.

You want to pay $1/round to be different at the range that looks like another AR15? Okay.

Let me preface the following statement by saying I pointed out early in the thread that cost to shoot is a mitigating circumstance for many. The round is very different from .223 and some people like variety. I've also met others who've told me that an AR in .223 is a waste of money. "You can't hunt with it, might as well get a .22" The same way not everyone wants to shoot .22LR not everyone wants to shoot 9mm and .223 all the time.

Well my reasoning behind the AAC blackout AR was that I could easily down the road also purchase a .223 upper and have both. Thats why im still debating between that and the m4a1

Just like the 1911 was made for the .45 ACP, the AR was made for the .223/5.56. Since this is your first AR, go with the DD in .223.
Depending how and what type of shooting games you do, the .223 will cost enough. The .300 is cost prohibitive unless you reload and the sizing etc of the brass is time consuming. Even if you reload, .300 costs close to $1/ round! You have to REALLY love the .300 option to spend time with reloading for that route.
We had a guy use the 300BLK at a match recently. His gun kept jamming and he spent a lot of time searching for the precious brass after. Not too fun IMO.

skip the quad rail. go 15.7" or 16"

have you looked at colt canada?

if you can wait and keep an eye out you should be able to find a sale.

(black friday)

I'm waiting for the transfer to go through on a Colt Canada MRR 11.6. This will be my first AR, but not my first experience with Colt Canada/Diemaco products. I carried Diemaco products as my personal weapons for 21 years.
