6.5 creedmoor Reviews

My thoughts are that it is the newest fad that has some very dubious "advantages" over a couple of other 6.5's if you are a competition shooter of some sort, but in the real world it is identical in effectiveness to rounds like the .260 or the 6.5x55. Nothing wrong with it at all, but no real reason for it sudden popularity over the others. If you find a deal on a rifle in that caliber, by all means go for it; but you may well be able to find better deals on rifles that are not "Creedmoor" stamped.

In my rifles, I measure the depth of the chamber to the start of the rifling with a hornady gauge and modified case. I found that in two of my .308s, the ideal length of bullet seating for the chamber is actually too long for my magazine to accept.

.260 Remington, being based on a .308 case, could see the same problem. The case takes up a lot of magazine length, leaving less room for bullet seating.

6.5 Creedmoor cases are slightly shorter, but because of shoulder angle have similar volume. This allows me to seat a long heavy bullet further out, so that I can get the ogive of the bullet close to the lands of the rifling.

It's an advantage if you're reloading.

This is why I chose the 6.5 Creedmoor, more room in the mag to play with seating depth and it’s a short action.

Well I finally caved ordered a Howa 6.5 CM with the 26 inch barrel from a site sponsor- going to get it in 6-9 weeks.
Not sure if I am going to reload if I can buy accurate ammo off the shelf but will keep all brass

One of the advantages of the Creedmoor over the Swede and the 260, is a much better selection of factory TARGET ammo due to its popularity.
The whole 6.5CM basis was an off the shelf budget target rifle with off the shelf affordable factory target ammo for non-reloaders. In that regard it was a success.
In the real world it's a 260Rem that holds 1gr less powder, and you can still get better results reloading.

BUT like I said, the Creedmoor has a better selection of factory loaded target AND hunting ammo.

6.5x47 Lapua is a slightly shorter case, achieves the same velocity, can be loaded longer out of the case, and still fit a short action magazine. it's been around for about 12 years, and is known to do well at 1000 yards. Factory ammo is available, but reloading is the way to go for precision.

The white tail I got last fall didn't seem to like it.

I agree with the comment above, this cartridge is not going anywhere. Hugely popular in the south even for hunting

The 260 Rem and 6.5 Swede will easily out-perform a 6.5 Creed, hands down. My buddy has a 6.5 Creed and it is accurate! It hasn't been fussy at all to load and it is just a hunting rifle. I think it seems to show inherent accuracy potential. But the other cals will do fine as well.

While I'm not into fad guns much, this is one advantage the 6.5 does offer over other cartridges esp in short actions. I'm tired of factory chambers/throats that need bullets seated out too far for the magazine or even get a proper bullet hold from the case neck.
