Havalon Piranta opinions?

I don't love havalon's but do find them useful. I still always carry a fixed blade or sturdy folder of some sort, particularly for splitting the hide down the back of the neck on a moose or elk.

I have done the full skinning/breaking down job on large game with havalon's though and it works.

Cutting oneself and blaming the blade is pretty comical......

I have a moose hunt coming up in just over a month, and I have been advised by multiple people to have good sharp knives, and I thought this might be a good way to do it.... Currently, I have two Moras, and a sharpener, which I think will get the job done, but the this style of knife has intrigued me so I figured I'd ask what others' opinions were.

I agree, the cutting isnt the knifes fault. One thing that I dont understandis those who says watch out there sharp, aren't/shouldnt all your knives be comparatively sharp and handled with equal care? If your regular knives can brush against you without cutting you they are far too dull.

You may find the moras fine scandi edge will readily roll on bone, imo a small secondary bevel will help alot. Ive ditched them as I found the somewhat obtuse blade angle inferior to others, but in the end they are sharp pieces of steel that cut stuff. Good luck on your hunt.

I found a way to stop that from happenng !! My EDC is a Mora Classic and one day I decided to spruce it up. I saw a clip on youtube of a guy bluing his self made pukko and it somehow hardened to edge so that it lasts longer than usual. So, I did it to mine and holy smokes it worked !! I used BirchWood/Casey InstaBlue. Make sure that you clean and majorly degrease the blade beforehand. Use a Q-tip and swab it on and let it sit for 2 minutes and rinse it off under cold water and then let it dry. You may have to do this a couple of times but its worth it !!

Folks that don't know how to use knifes blame the sharpness for cutting them. Chefs and doctors want sharp knives for good reasons.
Just like it is always the rifle, scope, ammos fault for missed shots.
