DA50 blowups

The barrel looks flutted so it should be a DA50 Gen 1. Also the gunsmith commented on the YouTube page that it was mostly an overpressured round. So probably not the rough chamber issue ppl been experiencing on the Gen 2.

Good catch, i didn't even think about the fluted barrel. Now I wonder what the ammunition was.

So to my surprise the wife WAS going to buy me a DA50 for my 50th...but she did her homework and was a bit surprised by a hand full of blow ups ,barrel problems and bolt problems..So all I got to date is a card...BUMMER!!!....Can any one elaborate what is happening with these?..

Handfull of blowups? Can you put her online with the evidence? As a da50 owner I've been keeping an eye on this, you really need some links and pictures, or are you trolling for someone else? Cause this sure sounds like bull$$$$. You might want to be a little careful about slagging something with 0 evidence... people may decide to dig a little deeper into your motives.

Well here you have the wife. Sorry no available sisters. :d I am always grateful for this website as a place to put out questions about firearms and the culture and get a broad range of input. Mostly the input is always positive, some offensive, everyone can clearly tell the difference.
The one case of the blowup was the one in Quebec, I have been working on getting details and it seems difficult to get confirmed evidence of exactly what happened. May have had nothing to do with the firearm. One other case was 4th person information and again although at first glance it easy to blame the gun, I cannot get first hand details, so that one is still very suspect fact. The third episode was a friend of mine who is on Canadian Gunnutz. Factory ammo, no modifications and no abuse. I have asked if I can forward any details but that is up to them and it would be massively disrespectful of me to do so without their permission as the discussion was not on the boards. Again, I am a firm believer that when dealing with anything in life, s#*t happens. Sometimes a firearm has an issue that should not be taken as evidence of chronic problems but just s#*t happens. However, when giving as a gift I had to be sure and took the more cautious path as noted by Boomer686. I still might get him DA50 (and I checked out the Steyr) or I can be patient, there is always another deal to be had. I guess oops will just have to wait and see. :p

PS Found some pretty good deals at all those gun shops from Home to Calgary and back again!! And I did get him the dies he was looking for to hold him over.

Hi panbear,
Thanks for the reply, I have to say that it would be "massively disrespectful" if a member was aware of a potentially lethal problem with a common firearm, and chose not to share with everyone. If I had a firearm blow up or malfunction in any way that might be hazardous, I know what I would do.
Cheers

I would prefer they actually find out exactly what happened and what the issue was instead of firing off (pun intended) a misinformed, vague, moral high horse rant online meant to incite an emotional response instead of focusing on the actual issue as I have seen a few do with regards to firearm issues. Either way it's their decision.
Have a great night all.

Righto, when you do "find out exactly what happened" be sure to let everybody know. Enquiring minds and all...
But if you have some info that may save someone a hospital visit or worse, might be nice to share. No emotional response required, just facts thanks.

Seems that once the facts are in, most gun blow ups are ammo related, usually reloads.
True enough, that and plugged barrels. My 13 yr old saved me a ton of grief last fall, pointing out that my muzzle loader barrel was full of snow. Came out of the warm truck and were hunting for a good half hour in -20. All we could think of was some snow off a tree had hit just perfect, about 3/8" of ice in the barrel that I had to smack out with the rod. Would have been spectacular, he said " you better teach me how to drive in 4x4 in case" so I did. We did get a deer that day, also stuck a couple of times... he learned, and so did I!

I bought a gen 1 upper modified by ATRS to fit their lower , it had bad extraction issues so Can ammo did me right and exchanged it for a gen 2 upper , but i had to eat $250 and send it to ATRS again to get setup to fit my non restricted lower. Pleased to say the gen 2 upper extracts everything easy, even tarnished surplus ammo, have fired about 100 rounds. Its very accurate too , was hitting a 15 inch gong at 800y with the cheapest ammo . Next test is match ammo and 1000 yards .

My only gripe with the rifle now is the bolt cleaning/disassembly ! When outside of the action the extractor will pop out easy if your scrubbing the bolt face and a little ball bearing and spring will go flying and get lost , there's another ball bearing in there somewhere too , The bolt should be taken apart or cleaned inside a ziplock bag lol .. Now i just clean the bolt face inside the action so nothing can fly off and get lost.

Thanks for the info on your experience. :d
