canik issues

i bought a canik TP9 on a whim. it was cheap. and i shoot it very well, it's got a great trigger, awesome reset. decent sights. i think it's a great pistol. except:

once in a while, usually, once per range day; i pull the trigger, striker drops, and no bang. do a slight, 5mm pull on the slide to recock the striker, and pull the trigger again. Bang.

anyone else have this? had this? any thoughts on how to fix it? i can't see anything on the internet (in my quick 3minute search, it's nothing but praising the pistol)

it's not a big deal, it's not like i am trusting my life with it, that paper i am shooting at, isn't coming at me. it's just a thing i wouldn't mind not happening.
 
Sounds like light primer strike. What ammo are you using? Seems like hard primers is the issue.

Technically heavier firing pin spring should fix it but I probably wouldn't bother.
 
After the first occurrence,i took a look at the firing pin channel. Thinking sluggish. Cleaned. Then it happened again. And again. This had never occurred on any of my other striker pistols.

As for ammo. It has happened using geco. Blazer. Ppu. American eagle.

I am not going to work on it too much. Like I said.....I don't defend my life with it. It's just a bit of a nuisance. And was wondering if anybody else has experienced it.
 
If anyone sells a lightened firing pin, that would help. I suspect the Canik light trigger is partially achieved with a light striker spring.

FWIW, in most striker fired race guns, you get very light pulls by:

1) Changing the connector angle
2) Reducing the striker safety spring weight
3) polishing the trigger bar and sear
4) Using a reduced weight striker with longer firing pin tip
5) Using a reduced power striker spring

Even with all these mods, if you skip the lightened striker, you will get occasional misfires. It's likely Canik is not using duty grade springs in their guns, as most people buying Canik are doing so for the light trigger and short reset.

Wolf may sell a heavier striker spring, which will improve reliability, but I'd expect the trigger pull to be a little heavier afterward.

I've had the same thing happen to me on my tp9sa, I've only run barnul through it so I thought it might just be the ammo I'm using. I've been meaning to test with some Blazer Brass and Remington UMC that I have, just haven't made it to the range yet.
