Czech Mauser

Just a quick update. Took the bolt apart in full and cleaned it meticulously. Took the rifle to the range. String shot the first round. No deformation on the brass. Shoots low at 25 m. Windage is true. Cycles like a dream. Kicks like a mule but not to bad for 8mm.

It's nice when the windage is "on".

I've had a number of older milsurps that shoot low. I suspect that a lot of commercial ammo is loaded nowhere near as hot as the original military ball for safety reasons - the ammo manufacturers have no idea how old the gun that's going to be firing the ammo is, so they load it light to be on the safe side.

Fortunately, it's easy enough to deal with. Just push the rear tangent up to a longer range, one click at a time, until you end up "zeroed" at 100 meters (or close enough). Saves you from having to do any permanent mods, and you can quickly go back and forth on your range setting for different ammo.

Thanks, Grelmar. That's exactly what I did. Worked great. I am now seriously considering buying a picatinny mount from badacetactical. I bought a similar mount from them for my M38 Swedish and a scope will make it easier than having to remember where the slide should be positioned every time I hit the range.
