Semi vs pump speed comparison

I have never seen someone throw double digit numbers of clay by hand (like tom knapp and few other guys used to do) and bust them all with a pump.

I dont own a shotgun.... yet... but would like to ask you guys what you think of some of the new tactical guns... like the pump action sap 6 or semi AR looking guns?
For now i would be mostly looking to use it for target practice.. but down the road maybe some hunting!

They look cool but buy a real useful gun first.

If you don't own one...yet...buy a common brand like Remington / Mossberg etc. Go to a store, or better yet, but used, and ask to shoulder said shotgun. Fit is more important then the name on the receiver. Then take it shooting. Hell, it may not be your thing, so why spend the $ on something you may not like. And...you may find out that you like the "classic" shotgun look and feel more then a "AR"

And to original post, I have seen guys run a pump accurately faster then a semi. If you know what you're doing, and how to do it, it's easy. But...I prefer semi now, but am still looking for another "holy grail" 870.

There's a video on Youtube of a guy dumping eight rounds out of a Benelli M4 in less than a second. No matter how fast you think you are with a pump, you're never going to beat that. ;)

I watched this video and was astounded. It was super impressive. Yesterday morning while I had my Axor MF-2 Semi out I attempted to dump the mag. I only had 4rds in it, but there is NO pump that could cycle as fast!!! Impossible... I couldn't believe it myself!!!!!! I'll have to take a video of dumping 15rds as fast as possible from my UTS & then 15rds from my Axor.. With mag changes the pump may be faster.....

I confirm, we having been playing at the farm with my Benelli M4 and it is was quite easy to unload 8 rounds ( 2 and3/4 with one sitting on the carrier plate) in a very short time, cant imagine someone pumping that fast... JP.

Dumping 8 rounds into the backstop is completely irrelevant.

You need to actually aim the gun, and hit 8 different targets for the time to mean anything.

If someone can pump the gun in the same amount of time it takes to aim, then there's no speed advantage with the auto.

Also; The pump has the advantage of not having any magazine restrictions.
I've seen plenty of 870s and Novas that hold 14 shells. That means they're still shooting while the auto is reloading.

In the context of a defensive situation, like an animal attack, being able to put 2 or 3 rounds out on target quickly is likely to be of great value, and a semi makes it easier to do than a pump.

Practice and familiarity are the key. Many skilled shooters can use almost any firearm more effectively than a rich "go faster". First time I shot a race gun felt like a laser blaster....

Why is that?? Just curious...

Because I beat the hell out of my bush gun and it must work when I need it to work, it must function 100% of the time.
Failure is not an option.
The world doesn't give you time to clear a jam or fuss with a cold action as time penalties or missed clays do not apply...
My pump has been dropped, used as a paddle, froze solid, covered in dirt and generally abused.
It's ugly and the trigger is gritty but it's 100% reliable.
If I lost it or scratched it I wouldn't cry, replacement is cheap.

If I had more money maybe I would carry a semi but I doubt it, a twin bar pump is just so goof proof...

The 3gun rules I've been following limit every platform to start with no more than 9 (you can top up a pump after the beep) which a semi can do if it's a 3 1/2" gun ghost loaded.
But I agree with you; my experiences in 3gun is the best shooter with a shotgun isn't the guy who shot the quickest, it's the guy who loaded it the quickest (or didn't "yard sale" the reload...).

1) see above quote.
2) would you prefer to face a life or death situation with a mechically complex devise or something as simple as a rock and as reliable as gravity?
Remember you cannot choose when or where it happens and chances are your gear is wet, dirty or cold.
