I just picked up a complete set of Rhino Stingers from the EE to use in my 101. Anyone here ever use their sub-gauge tubes for upland? I have a few boxes of 20 gauge 7 1/2 shot Sporting Clays loads that I thought might be ideal for potting Ruffed Grouse. The tubes come with SK & LM screw chokes. I was thinking the LM might be a good choice. What say you?

I installed the 20 gauge tubes last night and just as Rhino claims due to the length of the tubes(15") the weight is dead centred between my hands and there was absolutely no change in balance and I honestly could not notice the extra 7.5 oz overall weight. Each tube weighs 3.75 oz and the 410 tubes have 3" chambers. I assume that means they are made to take the extra bit of charge of a 3" load? And yes they definitely won't be the same as carrying a smaller gauge gun but at the price they are an affordable experiment. I should never have sold my 28 gauge 101 but the things we sometimes do??

More the extra length of the 3" opened hull is it not

Yes thats for sure but in target loads 4.10 are 2 1/2" shells, not 3" and are a 1/2 oz of shot loaded to target shooting velocity(1200fps or less) where 3" are field loads of 11/16 oz of shot @ 1250 fps plus. My concern was if the tubes were made to withstand that bit of heavier charge as these things are primarily made for the clays games.

I use savage 410ers in various double guns. Works great. The 3" version will handle any and all factory 3" shells

I only use them because I have them. They are fun for skeet

I just got off the phone with the owner of Rhino. He told me they discontinued making the Stingers because of people not following the instructions to use the recommended loads. Said too many people were blowing them up using magnum field loads, steel shot, handgun and rifle rounds so they quit making them to avoid a lawsuit. The instructions however don't really say it in the terms he did, they just state best results are achieved using AA's of 7.5 & 8 shot. The 410 tubes he said can handle 3" field loads but the other tubes target loads only! So I'll stick to his recommendations and give them a whirl.

I use the cheap 20 ga inserts in my 16 ga 2.5 inch double and a single shot (non-ejector). I use the light 20 ga loads for grouse. Works fine.

At one time or maybe still you could use 3 inch 410 in a 28 ga event. Maybe that has somtime to do with it?
