I've posted updates to my gun and brought my round count up to about 550 now.

I pulled the barrel and nut, cleaned thoroughly, reinstalled and retorqued it to 75 lb/ft after the new handguard. Initially I was disappointed because my groups opened up, I shot a few Federal GMM 168 at 1.5 MOA. But after about 50 more rounds of Hirt, some Federal Fusion and Hornady Amax through it they kept getting better and better. Previously I posted a group of my best showing about 0.6 MOA with Federal 168 GMM.

Here's tonight's best Hirtenberger group, the last of the evening. Bit of vertical stringing but not bad, that's actually a 4 round group. Have some other 4-6 round groups about the same 2-2.5 MOA.

And my last Federal GMM 168 group, and the last of that ammunition I have for now :( I wish I would have shot a bit more through my clean barrel prior to using my good ammo because it just kept getting better and better. Lesson learned.

One last note, if you get an SLR handguard, be aware that you can't use the MLOK point next to the gas block, the clearance is too tight. I have a 7 picatinny MLOK adapter to mount my bipod and I'm gonna have to get a shorter one to make it work properly. Anyway, I love this pic so here it is again.

Nice. Was it hard to change out the handguard? Any special tools needed?

No special tools beyond the SLR barrel nut tool. I threw the upper in the vice, took off the stock handguard barrel nut with a crescent wrench, and reinstalled the SLR with the optional 308 barrel nut tool they sell and a torque wrench to 75 lb/ft. Admittedly, 75 lb/ft is a guess based on what other AR10's run, because BCL doesn't include #### for a manual with this gun. But overall, it's a piece of cake!

How did you fit that stock? Did you change the buffer tube and/or buffer out? I like the look!

It fits over the stock buffer tube Driller, just have to hack off about 0.25" of the rear of the tube. I just marked it with masking tape and hacked it off with the bandsaw, took about 1 minute. The adapter piece up front is supposed to slide up to the castle nut but the stock buffer tube has threads there so you have to thread the plastic adapter as you push it on. The buffer tube is completely solid save for the drain hole over the last 1.5" or so, there's no issue shortening it.

It's length of pull was a bit short for me, so I added a PRS extended butt pad. It's about the same as position 4 of 6 on the factory stock now.

I went with this one because the stocker feels cheesy, rattles and has no buttpad. Considered the PRS, A2 Fixed and Luth-Ar fixed ones but they're too heavy IMO. This one is like 11-12 oz with the extra butt pad, only 2-3 oz heavier than the stocker. After dropping 14 oz off the front end with the SLR rail it balances so much better in the hands, it handles like the average AR15. I'm tickled because the gun as it sits right now is 9.8 lbs including that Zeiss 4-12x50 optic, it's hard to find a pencil barrel SCAR-17, XCR-M or G1 DPMS under 10lbs with magnified optics on a real world scale.

Gun is almost exactly how I want it now, I just have a Talon Ambi Safety kit coming, Geissele Maritime Bolt Catch and POF roller cam pin arriving this week and then might send it for cerakote... even though I'm really starting to dig pure black again.

whats the best trigger for those?

I went with an adjustable TriggerTech with a flat trigger. It is simply awesome!

Any AR15 trigger will fit, so I guess it's a very subjective question... But I will say, try the trigger that TriggerTech makes!

Just figured I'd update my post after a bunch more rounds downrange. The gun has been 100% reliable and I've been using Hirtenberger, Federal Fusion 165 and Federal GMM 168 for the most part.

Since word got out that DPMS barrels will work, I've ordered a replacement Criterion barrel that will take a bunch more weight off the gun. I would just like to get this gun close to 7.0 lbs unloaded and make it my Canadian version of the "What Would Stoner Do?" video series on Youtube. Basically, a gun that meets Non-Restricted criteria while being lightweight, accurate, reliable in the AR pattern and making updates and improvements where they can be had using modern tech. Overall I'm really happy with the build so far and this is my favorite gun in the cabinet.

Here's the current build list for those wondering:

SLR 13.5" Helix Handguard
CMC Flat Face 1+3 Drop In Trigger (required a minor massage)
Geissele Super Charging Handle
Geissele Maritime Bolt Release (needs a fair bit of work to function correctly)
Radian Ambi Safeties
POF Roller Cam Pin
Magpul MOE Fixed Carbine Stock and Extended Butt Pad (need to shorten buffer tube 0.25" or so to work)
Magpul MOE + Grip
Ergo Mlok Grips
Lantac Dragon

Optics:
Longrange - Zeiss 3-12x50mm on Aeroprecision Mount
Lightweight/CQB - Holosun HS510C

Waiting on:
Criterion Lightweight Barrel
SLR .750 Adjustable Gas Block
Cerakoting

Excellent Bombsquad68!

If you could post the original weight of each of the parts you replace, along with the weight of the new part, that would very helpful to everyone with BCL102 rifles who want to trim some weight off their rifles...

Cheers

That sounds like a very nice finished product, my only suggestion would be to skip the Dragon. They are very loud and an AR-10 doesn't kick too bad. I've owned a few 308 semi's now and usually just end up buying a nice flash hider. If you're hunting with it one or two slightly harder kicks in the shoulder will be worth not having that muzzle blast from the Dragon.
Be sure to post some pics once you have it all together.

Sure, I posted this elsewhere a bunch, but the main weight loss on mine was the HG. To be honest, I'll take an oz here or there to save money or if it has some other benefit I'm looking for, so it's not purely a featherweight build, just my version of a solid, lightweight, "do-it-all" build.

Original Handguard and Hardware - 653 gr (23 oz)
SLR HG and Hardware - 256 gr (9 oz)

Original Stock - 9 oz
MOE Fixed + Buttpad - 11 oz

I'll update when I get to the barrel and smaller SLR gas block! There's even lighter barrels out there but I didn't want to go 20" to keep the gun from getting too unwieldy and long (Faxon makes some really nice stress-relieved pencil profiles).
