AR-15 gas tube touching barrel nut a big deal?

This is a question for the AR gurus. I'm building a 10.5" with an SLR Rifleworks rail that uses a barrel nut that doesn't require timing, however the gas tube touches the barrel nut in a couple places, which also causes it to press against the top of the opening in the upper.

Should I be considering removing a very small amount of material from the barrel nut so the tube can float freely or is this not such a big deal?
 
I can't see why it would be an issue. I certainly wouldn't be removing any material from the barrel nut. Put the BCG in and make sure it's not binding on the tube in the upper. If it's seated all the way forward with no issues I would say you're good.
 
Looking at the barrel nut you do need to time it, even though the website says you don't. If you have it square with the flat top your tube shouldn't bind, if it still does then find a manufacturer that knows what they are doing.
 
Thanks for the input, fellas. I found a thread on ar15.com where a guy asked about the same issue with an SLR rail. If you look at his picture you'll see that regardless of where the the flats of the nut are positioned, the circumference is consistent where the tube is touching.

I'm sure the gun will function properly, however I've always been under the impression that if the tube binds on the nut it can affect accuracy. I may just go ahead and complete the build, and see how it shoots.

I just tried running the carrier in and out of the upper and because of the angle the gas tube enters the upper, the gas key hits the tube before sliding over it. The only way I think I can fix this is to dremel away some material from the barrel nut or bend the tube, both of which I'd rather not do... or find another rail. :(
 
what type of gas block do you have?

so is it hitting the top of the gas key port?
what direction do you have to bend the gas tube ? up down right or left (looking from the chamber end)

If you bend the gas tube and mess it up you are out app $10-15 plus shipping for a new one

It's a Noveske low-pro. Yeah, it's hitting the top of the port. It would need to be bent down or if I wanted to clear the barrel nut i'd have to bend an offset into it. I may try to bend it over some dowel.

just bend the tube to straigthen it out so its not at an angle

If there's no misalignment with your gas block, just do this. The gas block will function 100% with a slight bend in it.

Hell, the guys at tier one armory have a gas tube that is bent and wrapped around the barrel several times and it still functions.
