Dog Shot-No changes planned for hunting boundaries in Sea to Sky

The idiot fired a shot that struck a dog only ten feet from another person. He could have easily hit the woman, to me that is careless use of a firearm, and the individual should not be in possession of firearms.

I live in the northern part of Squamish in a subdivision, we've had a wolf in my back yard. We also get bobcats, ducks, bears, coyotes, you name it.

Is there a prevalent Wolf population in the area? Honest question.
I grew up camping that backcountry and have never seen a wolf.
Coyotes? Yes. Bears, cougars, marmots, porcupine?
Yup. Wolves? No.
My brother's dog was part wolf, he wore a 4" red collar for this reason. He was always worried about this happening.

Yup.lots of them. Wolves are much more cagey than bears and yotes, they work in packs and are smart, which is why people don't see them as much.

So a dog gets shot somewhere in B.C., then last week in Alberta, a dog shoots a gun.
Was it a Negligent Discharge? Was the dog aiming at someone and pretended it was an accident?
Hmmm, I wonder if the canines are up to something.

If it was 15 or 20 feet, that is still way too close.
She was not hit or even grazed so not close enough obviously. I was almost struck by a car but it didn't happen so a non-event.
Had this woman not been trespassing (and had been repeatedly told to stay out) this occurrence would have never happened. She needs to share the blame.

I am not saying that she wasn't also to blame, but what kind of hunter doesn't realize that he is looking at a number of dogs accompanied by people? And to shoot that close to people is certainly not responsible.

Shoot in my general direction and there will be a storm abrewing in your camp sir.
15 feet or 20 feet regardless if it is a legal game animal one is trying to harvest someones teeth are gonna get.....

With the new information about where she was, I don't think I'm interpreting this wrong in the slightest bit. The journalist reported what was told to them. "Lucille Lake" would make this much more controversial than "gravel pit I wasn't allowed into" And I can certainly understand a National paper saying "near Whistler" as it would make more sense to their national readers.

.

And I am also explaining from a geography perspective that Daisy Lake would have actually been a more accurate description for anyone interested in the story as 100% of the people that have been to Whistler have seen Daisy Lake, while only a miniscule amount know where Lucille is. But if you want to whip the local masses into a frenzy, best identify the area you don't want hunters as the popular recreation area, and not the quarry that you weren't supposed to be in anyway.

I have not heard this, but I am not surprised. I suppose she could pursue civil litigation with her new found wealth, but there is also the tresspass thing.

Again, I'm not so sure about that. How do you know the location of Lucille lake was provided by the person who's dog was shot? As someone who is not local to the area but driven through there many times, I'd have to look up either Lucille lake or daisy lake to know where they are.

If the reporter was doing a half decent job, they would have figured out exactly where this occurred and then picked a location to use based on personal bias. Keep in mind the reporter also talked to a CO, the person who's dog was shot isn't the only source of info here.

It seems the dog had just come up an embankment onto the gravel road. The other dogs and handlers were still off the road, down an embankment. So it's entirely possible the hunter had no idea the rest were there. The forest is thick, it would be easy to not see them in such a situation.

That doesn't absolve him of not identifying his target but it could explain the close proximity to others.

Did you think for a moment he may not have seen her? That he was not aware of her presence at all. He was hunting; do you expect a hunter to yell out before pulling the trigger on a animal?

I wouldn't be happy either but trying to punch a armed person in the face would not be the smartest course action to take.
How about all waiting for the investigation to be completed before hanging the guy in public.

Problem is, maybe she lied about the facts. Apparently she was knowingly trespassing too. Why the incredible devotion to the gospel truth of her statement? If it was that clear cut charges would happen quickly. You have been around long enough to know there are often lots of lies in any he said she said situation.
