I don't personally don't know Smellie but I know he was a real important source of knowledge here on Gun Nutz....I always read and appreciated his posts. As I understand his buddy and Smellie were in the middle of renovating that school to make a museum about preserving Canadian Military artifacts and like historical documents. That combined dream was lost in a fire allegedly set by a couple of young dis-respects or better said a couple "despicable characters". For his buddy and Smellie the museum was about giving back and preserving a important part of Canadian Military history for others to enjoy. They wanted to create a hands on display and a library full of info where hands on research could be done. After viewing the video ...if felt for these fellows, it appears that time is not on their side as far as trying to re-coup the monetary value that they lost in the fire. Knowing they had no insurance I thought it might be a nice way of showing in some small way that we remember and care...... and who knows maybe they will still be able to set a smaller local exhibit up with a little extra needed help. Unfortunately I don't have the computer skills or the time to set up a little trust fund but I'll be the first to stand up and make a $$$ donation. I think it would be wise if we could work through a local banking institution and post a notice locally and of coarse here on Gun Nutz where a donation could be made and funneled to some banking institution. After some time, "in front of the burned out school" the organizer could invite the local media and present a cheque to Smellie and his buddy and show that we as gun owners care about each other and that united we stand!!!!
Just a thought....any locals here ready to stand up to the challenge????
We have more than enough members here to make that happen!!!!

I'd be in for a small donation if someone sets this up. (I'm busy renovating right now).

I would most definitely contribute. George and Jan could use some help. Someone who has the know-how to set up a fund, please step up.

Count me in! He is such an amazing guy!!! It is really sad that this happened! Wonder if Wolverine Supplies could set up a spot for donations on their website to make it really easy!!!??? They are in Virden also. :)

People probably need to hear from George on this before doing anything. His big challenge would be finding a suitable facility/building which is in good shape, accessible and secure. Then there's ongoing utility and maintenance costs and the like.
