Second last day of 7 dayElk/Deer hunt the fog rolled in and the visability dropped to 50 feet. An Elk called back to the call but impossible to tell how far in the clag. Made out a dim form and my heart skipped a beat as I tried to make out a Bull Elk! Not to be as the fog lifted just enough to make out a 3 point Whitetail Buck who was curious about the calls. "I guess'. Couldn't bring home another empty cooler so shot him through the lungs at 31 yards with my 30:06 ELD-X 178gn. Maybe an Elk in November!🦌

As you probably surmised, sometimes my cow call sounds more like a duck than an Elk! Joined the Team this morning so will post photos soon.

Not sure if I understand correctly but did you just shot a buck while visibility was reduced? How did you know what was behind the target?
Let me know what zone do you hunt usually so I stay away. :)

I don't often see many Deer standing around a Group of People, or just moping along with a Predator at their heels, I would bet the local Church wasn't out field watching for birds in the fog either..... them VLDX things sound like grenades I guess perhaps the bullet didn't exit, or don't normally exit.....

OP- pics of this just didn't happen :D :D right!

Good hustle on the hunt, As Rob said, a bird in one hand is better than two in the bush...

Added photo of little buck. ELD-X hit one rib and exited after taking out the lungs. Probably too close, (31yds), to slow down too much. 54.3 gms of IMR 4360. No meat damage as exited as a golf ball size hole. By the way, hunting on private land and was well familiar with the area so knew no one else around!
