7.62x51 hirtenberger?

Hey my local cabelas has stg-58 Austrian 240 round bricks of 7.62x51 and I’m wondering is this the hirtenberger everyone talks about?

It says hp-09/80 on the box. Can I assume this means 1980 and it is boxer primed? Pic attached

I have some of the 1980 Hirtenberger & it is reloadable.

I think that is the year they switched over...

Not sure cause I haven't used any of mine but some folks say the 360 battle packs ar boxer and the 240 are berdan, mine are 360 and sold to me as boxer! Can anyone confirm?
 
Like another poster said, half way through 79 they changed from berdan to boxer. The green sealed (around primer) is berdan. The red sealed is boxer. Thats been my experience.

just an FYI bought some ‘red sealed’ 7.62 Hirtenberger from Tenda today and the round I dismantled is Berdan primed and steel core projectile with what appears to be a copper jacket

I also need to correct myself - after I bisected a projectile last night and it stuck to a magnet I assumed it was steel core — however in the daylight it was apparent that the jacket was steel with a very nice (and deceiving) copper coating/wash. The actual bullet core appears to be lead and is reasonably soft —- this observation was brought to my attention by another shooter today who was familiar with this ammunition. To confirm - while it is nice looking and clean brass it is unfortunately Berdan primed and so problematic for a reloader. It appears that the ‘magnet’ test may not indicate a steel core but (as in this case) rather it indicates a steel jacket.

I would like to report if the ammo shot well or not - unfortunatley my shooting (with an M305 and irons) was very poor and the results are not a fair indication of the capability of the ammunition.
 
Hirtenberger 1980 vintage is Boxer primed with a small flash hole. Make sure that you don't bend your de-capping pin - otherwise very nice brass!
