So.. Now that the 10-22 has lost its apeall... now what?

Nice little 1022. But wait. You put 4 spacers? How tall are you ?
Those hk 22s that irunguns is bringing in seem pretty cool.
The 10/22 is the only semi 22 I've liked. Also the only ruger I've liked. I like the 10 round mags and have always preferred them. I use it like a target rifle anyway. Not a tactical trainer.
This is a bone stock 10/22 vleh with a magpul stock. I shoot cheap cci mini mags.

Long arms. Feels best with full spacers installed. I also picked up the extra cheek risers and have it on the highest they sell. Pretty comfortable for range work.
And although a bit unorthodox for a youngster, my kids can shoot pretty decent with it in this set up also. Not as well as the spacers removed but they have fun with it.

Have you considered a gsg 15? Nice little tacticool rifle with a 22 round mag. Mine is pretty accurate and would work well for the type of shooting you do. Just steer clear of lead tip bullets, ftf issues.

My compact 10/22 is one of my wife's favourite guns of mine. I like it too but I have other favourite guns for different things but the 10/22 is great for introducing new or young shooters to semi auto.

What's not to like? Cheap to purchase cheap to feed, plenty of accessories.

It's a blast to shoot or should I say a "pew"

I don't have a 10/22 but do have a ppsh50 and a gsg stg44 and they are great, marstar had a sale on the ppsh 50 just recently which included the drum mag

So now that 10-22 mags are limited to 10 rounds, and other semi auto 22s are not... Seems like the 10-22 is loosing its appeal... to me anyways...

What's the next coolest 22 semi auto where a guy can enjoy a high cap mag and have a little fun?

Maybe something that comes dressed to play TAC or could be dressed up a bit.

Anschutz has one that kinda cool, but my confidence on that one is kinda low.

There must be something fun left out there.

Suggestions guys?

Using a semi in one of these shooting "disciplines"~can't really relate, but, the Marlin 795 does have some high-capcity mags available for it from ProMag last time I looked. A 25 round "stick" mag and a 70 round drum. I've always thought the Kel-Tec SU-22 was a cool-looking rifle but I've never held one, nor do I know what mag options exist for them.

Back when I had a 10/22~high cap mags were (rightfully) not an issue, however, I saw ZERO appeal in buying one. The flush/10 rounders are among the best rimfire mags ever made. However, the 10/22 was a let-down in several other ways so off it went.

Happiness is a nice bolt gun after all. :)

Great to see kids out shooting~eyes and ears too! My kids at that age used to ask me if they could go shooting. Now that they're all teenagers...I can't GET them to go. lol I hope they come back to it.

I saw all those spacers too...and though; "jeez...just move the scope a little forward!" :) Nice looking rifle. Tikka mag on the bench?

I've had a Remington 597 heavy barrel with 16" barrel and it runs like a Swiss watch and is a tac driver. 10 and 25 round mags. Awesome gun. Paid under $300.

Agreed on this heavily. I have a stock Rem 597 with a set of Tech Sights on it. It's far more accurate, dead reliable and 1/3 the price of any of my 10/22's which I sold very shortly after picking it up.
The 10/22 lost its appeal for me 5 years ago after I picked up my 597 off the EE.

Rugers are overpriced. They come in at around $475 after tax for base models these days.
For a semi auto 22? Forget it. They're the same quality as any other semi auto out there in materials etc They always were over rated. The only thing they have going is a Chinese Sea Can full of junk garbage plastic trinkets you can hang off them that do nothing to actually make it a better rifle.

Rem 597 for semi and Savage MKII for a bolt. I bought both of those with a set of Tech Sight irons for each. Using the EE it cost me about the same for the rifles and the Tech Sights as it would for a new standard 10/22 from Cabelas.

I agree on this as well. I have the VTR model with a 6-24x scope on it. Deadly accurate with CCI green tags.

I'm going to throw an oddball at you, but I would buy a Marlin 795 semi auto in a heartbeat and make it tactical if that was goal. I've never had a problem with my Marlin no matter what shells I was shooting out of it. And for $220 for the rifle, you can buy stocks, optics, magazines, and pretty much anything else you would want without breaking the bank.

Who says the 10-22 has lost its appeal?
Those that know know the 10-22 is a great little plinker, grouse killer. gopher getter et all.
It would appear the new shooters are bored with playing weekend warrior maybe.

I actually bought a 10/22 this month... It's still a great gun even with the mag limitation.

Got a discontinued VLEH with the hammer forged barrel at a local retailer for less than half the list price. I figured it was too good to pass up!

I bought an ISSC MK22 to replace my 10/22 takedown (kept it anyway, still love it) and it outshoots and out tacti-cools my 10/22. It’s going grousing with me this year because headshots at 30 yards is no problem. Egonomic & fun, although taking it down to clean isn’t as easy as a 10/22. Except for the butt stock on the ISSC MK22, it is identical to the GSG-15 which might be easier to find.

3 Options that might meet OP's requirements:

ISSC Mk-22 SCAR 22LR as you mentioned
https://www.gotenda.com/shop/firearms/rifles/issc-mk22-scar-22lr-non-restricted/

GSG-25 22LR is another option for the same price
https://www.gotenda.com/shop/firear...22-lr-rifle-16-5-barrel-black-non-restricted/

And the HK-G36 2LR is a third option

I'm thinking the HK-G36 2LR is the best option on the table so far.

It has no obvious short comings that I know of... but need to investigate further.

ISSC Mk-22 SCAR 22LR and GSG-25 22LR have a host of reliability issues reported on line... hard to clean too.
