The Kodiak & the Bull Moose

Great rifle and bull.

Thanks! Really is a fine rifle. Dispatched the Bull instantly with a quick 2nd shot.

Interesting, just got back from an unsuccessful moose hunt, saw lots of moose but did not have a limited entry for a big bull, so I was looking for an immature bull [2 x 3 or less], I alternated between a Brno 9.3 x 62 and a Winchester EW 300 win mag stainless depending on weather and location, all of my moose in past years have been taken with either a 300 wm or a 30/06.

From my lengthy experience moose hunting, using any standard/magnum calibers, keep shooting until the animal is down.

And interesting reasoning in regards to the 375 H&H not been "adequate".

Keep shooting until the Moose is down? Unsatisfactory. My objective is a 1 shot DRT kill.

In this example it was a quick 2nd shot DRT kill. Could have had a goat rodeo on my hands.

From experience a much greater chance of a 1 shot DRT kill using one of my .40+ calibers. ;)

Well, no. Keep shooting until it's down is right. You just want to only shoot once.

I think the mindset isn't quite right if the word 'keep' remains in context because the objective is to shoot just once, not to keep shooting until it's dead. Definition 2 states to 'continue'. Yes, one will need to shoot 2 or more times to dispatch his quarry if the first shot didn't do the job but that's remedial work since the first shot didn't have the desired effect. Unsatisfactory because the objective of 1 shot 1 DRT kill didn't happen.

Then don't make a crappy shot, you hit the moose bad and are blaming the cartridge what a joke

Right through the front door of the boiler room is a bad 1st shot? No indication whatsoever that it was hit. The Bull just quickly turned and bolted.

At least its ears should have drooped. :p
