The ultimate slap in the face would be if the m10x gets here first. Wantsalls says maybe as soon as late October (!).

I prefer the t81 with cheap mags and proven design, but the m10x is optics-ready and at only $1400, it will affect t81 sales for certain. I can see the price of the t81 going lower to keep sales volume up over time, but we shall see.

Yea that would be a huge annoyance considering how long ago I prepaid for my type 81 lol. But unfortunately we're just along for the ride now

The big question remains, will the Type 81 Bayo fit the M10X?

No, the question is if the M10X will take $29 T81 mags... lol. And will the BHO function work?

My prediction:

Some T81 folders will be back up on TI's site by Monday afternoon. Some people who would have actually preferred a NR black rifle and bought the T81 planning to find a way to scope it and make it tacticool will ask for refunds and switch horses.

Personally, I'm still liking the T81 more. It's basically a VERY similar rifle from a target audience perspective, but I want wood stocks, a narrow folding stock and factory irons because I will use this rifle in the cold with thin gloves. That's not something I will do using a rifle with an aluminum gripping area. And inside 100m, I don't need optics - which means I can abuse the gun more and not worry about bumping an optical sight off of zero.

They did that with X54 as well, got 800 rounds of it. It's cheap enough and works just fine as I suspect the X39 will as well. I'm well stocked with X39 so I might look into the M10X as well. To be honest if this came available much sooner I would have bought this over the T81. But having both would be cool as well LOL.

I think they are different rifles aimed at different people, but lots of ppl bought the T81 who actually aren't after an iron-sighted, wood stocked rifles. These are the ppl who have already been discussing how best to mount an optic, that likely ordered the cheese grated forestock, etc.

The T81 will be best suited as a knock-about iron-sighted adverse conditions rifle. The M10X will be fore the ppl who want an aimpoint, VFG, single-point sling, etc. It might also be competitive in 3-gun. But no way will the M10X hold up to abuse like a T81 will - it wasn't built with he peasant conscript in mind.

Yes that's a very good question about the mags; considering M+M claim it can take ANY ak mags and the type 81 mag is similar in dimensions.. Perhaps it'll be close enough to rock and lock?? We can only hope. Either way I'm still excited for my type 81 fixed stock to be here I've been waiting years and I love the wood and blued steel classic appeal.

I’d take a Communist Cold War piece of history (even tho it’s a “reproduction”) over a Tacticool aluminum BR any day. That being said it’s a nice alternative to $$$$ restricted AR platforms. I might grab one next year once they’ve landed. I would of jumped on it right away if it was 556

Right on. That's my thinking too.

I much prefer the wood.

The quad rail on the M10 is silly. If it had wood handguards I'd be game. I like the look of the Type 81 much more than the M10.

It’s not a quad rail,that’s the upper receiver,it’s a monolithic upper.

Regardless, two completely different rifles....that’s why I’m getting both.

Have you guys already got your ammo for your type 81? What kind of ammo have you got? Are you going to feed your 81 surplus ammo?

Yeah got some surplus Russian left and a whole case of Bulgarian surplus ready to go. Might have some Czech surplus around the garage as well.
