How Efficent Are You With A Grouse?

Wow. Here in the hunting region I hunt in all the time you would of been one bird short of bagging out your daily limit in just two shots. Nice spruce grouse. I find they taste the best.

That was my first time grouse hunting.........some serious beginners luck that way.

Was out looking for deer but figured I'd bring other guns along in case something else came along and it sure payed off.

Region 3 just north of the Coquihalla Summit Recreation Area is filled with grouse.

i usually use .22 and aim for head only....but I confess I dont usually clean them as nice as you. How do you do that ...?....just pull skin off.
:agree:
One split molar was enough for me.
The idea of ingesting lead in any form was unappealing once we read the symptoms and effects of lead poisoning.
Lead is a cumulative poison and builds up in the body.
Two old relics like us are already knocking on heavens door without adding lead toxicity to the list.
With a single projectile you either get a clean hit or miss.
We line the head & neck up with the vertical crosshair.
We can both whistle pretty loud and find that will stop a walking bird long enough for a trigger squeeze.

Tons of game preparation stuff on the internet complete with video.
Don't bother buying instruction books on anything any more.
If its worth learning its on youtube.

Took 3 grouse on the weekend. 22 rimfire in the head or high in the body so as to preserve the breasts without damage.
Cooked them up with bacon [as shown here] Delicious!!! D.

We consider the eyes the '10-ring'.
The perfect shot is a direct hit in either of the grouse's eyes.
Paws 22 mag with hp bullets will disintegrate most of the head with an eye shot.
Lots of feathers on that neck to hide that skinny little spine.
That whistle of his is loud enough to stop a freight train.

I'd rather support someone like Rinella, especially when the material is worth the price.

We're too lazy to slap on our dr. walmarts prescribed $9.95 glasses and read a book or pamphlet.
I prefer to learn from live video the 'monkey see, monkey do' way.

grouse schnitzel is very good. Especially if you brine the meat in a salt/sugar water mixture for 24hrs before cooking.

^^^I discovered this one last weekend. Brine the grouse overnight, pat dry, dredge in flour, dip in egg, then bread with Panko and fresh grated parmesan. Fry in butter and olive oil. Super tasty.

Edit: I was looking to see if anyone had ever made grouse stock from the carcass; seems like a no brainer, but I couldn't really find any info on the net. I'll be trying that in the next couple weeks also.
