All my 7 XCR-L 7.62 mags don't handle fully loaded 10 rds very well.

Double checked they are all 7.62 CPD XCR-L mags (black follower). I can cramp the 10 rds in the mag sure enough but most of the time when then 10th round is inserted the top round nose dive to hit the mag's front plate. This is using the Norinco M43 ammo and I don't have any other ones to try. I first thought it was the gun issue but now it seems all of the 7 mags don't like to have 10 rds in them. If I reduce it to 8 rds it seems to do fine. 9 or 10 rds it seems to have random issues. Does it take time for the spring to break in or is there anything I can do to fix this?

This is the only 10rds 7.62x39 pistol mag available right? Not like the LAR15 ones that I get to choose between MFT and the metal ones?

Mine are RA Pistol mags, they can break in a bit. Are you trying to insert on a closed bolt? Yes? Don't do that and problem solved. This happens with different calibers and different guns based on mag design and spring tension.

All 16 of my mags are the ASC RA magazines from Questar and all have no problem holding 10 rounds each.

They were stiff to fit 10 in from the start but broke them in pretty quickly.

I used a paint stir stick to push the follower all the way into the magazine body over and over to loosen up the springs a bit

I have the same issue... will try the paint brush drill.
I've been loading 6 or 7 rounds during drills, trying to break them in but I have 12 of them...

Mine says RA pistol mags on the side but the bottom plate says CPD... and they were bought new in sealed plastic bags...
Unfortunately it is open bolt. Not to mention that before I even put the mags into the magwell by just looking at the mag it kinda not look right with the 10th round added as the 10th round will obviously nose dive down. I have about 6 LAR15 mags and I never see this happens with 10 .223 or 556 loaded. If I remove the 9th and 10th round (usually pretty hard on the stiff mag) then it is fine and smooth. It is always the last 2 rounds that giving me the trouble.

Just an idea, I've had pistol magazines act stupid with nose dives and a quick fix was to take the magazine apart and charge the orientation of the spring.

The legs on the follower may be a bit long as well, trimming that part down can also help out.

Thats sounds repetitive and boring for ADD people like me

Ohhhh..... bad luck, sounds like they're all defective, better send them all to me for disposal :p

Actually, I was going to offer to send him my mags for breakin....
I've always considered individuals with too much time on their hands as admirable and wondrous creatures....much like unicorns, or guys whose box stock factory rifles shoot 1/8 MOA with cheap, surplus ammo....

I am having the issue where in the 10 round CPD made XCR magazine the last four rounds the rim will not rise enough and the bolt catches the base mid body causing a horrid failure to feed (I have 'Garand thumb' on one finger from clearing one jam today - didn't get that finger out of there before the extractor caught me  ). I can load 10 rounds no problem, insert on a closed bolt and the bolt hold open on last round works fine.

EDIT: I made a fix by cutting a small grove in the bottom of the follower to hold the spring to the rear. This will be fine for range & target shooting only magazines (I'm using 5/20 Magpul for hunting).

Your problem is that you are sticking a heavily tapered cartridge in a magazine that was designed for a cartridge with almost no taper.
This is why I don't like AR's and other rifles that are converted to run x39, most of the time it's not an issue when running 5 rounds but as you and others are finding things get sticky when more rounds are pushed into the straight magazine.

This is why AK mags are heavily curved and AR mags are almost straight.
You're either lucky and yours work relatively trouble free or you're SOL.
