I returned a couple weeks ago from a trip to Iceland, Norway and Sweden. Was in Oslo and area and saw some forts Ill post later, but also went up to Narvik. Way in the North, the arctic circle actually. I actually went swimming, just to say I swam in the arctic ocean, but I cant recommend it, too damn cold. Anyways this base is still in active use by the Norwegians. As such you need to book a licensed guide ahead of time,and you are accompanied by an MP. Worth it though. These 4 turrets sit on top of a ridge overlooking a stunning landscape. These guns were destined for German super battleships, but were scrapped after the Bismarck disaster.
The yellow shells are HE and 1025kg, with a range of 36kms. The blue are AP, HE. The darker smaller ones are 600kg but have a range of 56kms......the Norwegians tested it post war and were on target in the second shell.
The turrets and guns are massive. Photos dont do it justice. You can see the full size doors on the side to give some scale.
Also seen on base are the remains of German barracks, and the camp for Soviet POWs who were slave labor.
Also the hardly visible map is all the coastal forts put in by the Germans......excessive. I will do more threads on the other cool German stuff I saw later.
20 men worked in the turret alone, with 60 below feeding it. It is a truly impressive sight. I have more photos if anyone wants to see anything further. Thought some guys would enjoy the photo of the staked screw. lol

The Germans amassed hundreds of rounds of ammo for these guns, all of them are still stocked with shells.
