I have a 338 Fed , I won't be shooting at anything at 500 yards . It's a good round , but not something for taking long pokes at game . Looks like someone's talking out their a$$ .

Ive owned two 338F rifles. Good round, but always left me wanting a bit more, so now I have the 338-06 and wouldn't ever go back

I also have had two .338 Fed's... and I prefer it to the .338-06, if I am going with the long action case I step up to the Whelen, but when it comes to that, I prefer the .358 Win to the .338 Fed, so I guess I just prefer the .35 cals in general... I have four .35 cals at present and zero .338's.

I have a 358 Win and a 338 Fed . There isn't much difference between them on game , in my experience anyway . The Fed is in a Rem 760 , it's a great little rifle in the thick stuff and the 358 is built on a Savage short action . It's more a general purpose rifle and not quite as handy as the pump . Long story short , I'm keeping both of them ......... and my 9.3 ...... and the 375 . I'm starting to see a pattern in my caliber choices .

Look for a Tikka or a Kimber. I have a Tikka in .338 Federal and it's what I'm carrying this season. Also have a 9.3X62 in a Tikka.

interesting mate, whats the story on the pros an cons to the 93 an the 338?

I'm thinking of not goin down the Winchester route in the wildcat/rebarrelled 338 fed simply because I think it would be cheaper an easier to buy a 2nd hand 3006 barrel for the tikka an use it as a platform, as opposed to the obsolete / rare / hard to sell 338 fed!

Obsolete? I guess if you don't handload...

Yeah don't jump the gun on the use of words on the interweb , however I live in Australia an the 338 Federal is very very uncommon and Factory ammo very very expensive, so for now I'm stickin with Obsolete in Oz..

in the real world we can stick to the other options I used, being Rare and or Hard to sell.

Thanks bud

Non-magnum mediums as a class of cartridges are on life support. If a new one were introduced today it would fail on the market too.

I can understand that, Wonder how long it will be until the World is screaming for all the Old cals again, even more so than now... I wonder if any will 'come back' , And which You think they might be?
