First pistol advice

Thanks for all the input and replies! I perused the forums and found a bunch of ‘first pistol’ threads, guess I should have done a search first...

On the bright side, I’m now convinced I can’t have just one so let me just find my wallet...:ar15:

I’m liking what I’m reading about the M&P 22, seems like a good place to start.

My buddy just got one, I shot it last Saturday, very enjoyable to shoot, and a great looking gun. I have a Sig 1911-22 with well over 10,000 rounds thru it,,, at some point I will upgrade and the M&P .22 is definitely on my list

I've got a gsg 1911 22 with the ZRTS kit as well. Happy with it so far. What I learned, and thus may not be an issue for you, get a gun that fits.

I tried the range of 22s and had trouble finding one that ft my hand well. Many were just too small. The beretta neo was a bad one for me, my pinky had to go under the grip. The gun I came back to and was happiest with it in hand was the gsg. I didn't have any trouble with it as many have. But I cheated. I used a bit of break in lube on the slide contact points. Couple dozen cycles and she was silky smooth. The only ftf or fte I've had were my fault. If I let part of my hand or thumb make contact with the slide I'll feel it go back to battery slow and learned already that there will be a stove pipe. And that's with m22s. Grabbed a few hundred mini mags last weekend (8.99/100 less 10% at that place going out of business ). Edgy let me shoot his which was helpful because I'd bought mine but didn't have it yet so it was very reassuring to know I'd like it.

I picked up an M&p pro on Ee and am rapidly getting better with it.

I'm happy with the two very different guns. And like you op a new shoote. I may well upgrade later but I suspect the gsg will be burnt out when I'm done with it. :)

My friend shoots a M&P22. I love the grip and grip angle. It is a very solid gun great to shoot. However, I do feel the trigger take up is a bit longer especially for first shot. I am more of a 22/45 Lite guy so I got used to very short take up trigger with my victory trigger mod installed with pre and post travel screws. I also tried out Victory 22 at the range once. It is not a pretty looking gun IMO (plz all Victory 22 owners don't hate me) but it shoots extremely well. Victory 22 came with factory fiber optic sights so you already saves money from buying new sights.

I like the idea of having two guns when I go on a range trip. ( no parts swapping when I want to shoot. )
Depending on a new 22 shooters budget, I tell them to buy a Ruger MKII (around 400.00.) They are accurate and eat everything.
If they have a little more cash. I tell them to cry once, & get a used Smith Model 41 (around 1000.00)

As for 9mms, I have had great success with both the Smith M&P9 Pro series( approx 800.00 used),
and the STI Spartan 1911 (approx 750.00 used)
Be safe, & have fun.
