Production Optics Div ???

If it is the SAO version it is not legal by rule. SKU

Sean can explain the history better than I but AFAIK back in the day the 1911 SA gun was thought to be superior to any DA SA gun then in Production. When Production Division was approved they did not want just another 1911 dominated division so they excluded SA guns. USPSA Production Division is dominated by striker fired guns because there is no 5# minimum trigger pull in their Production Division while IPSC does have the limitation and Production Division is dominated by DA SA guns.

Aside from the RB saying SAO only guns are excluded from Producton Division the above explanation is as good as any. There likely other versions.

Can anyone explain to a newbie why SAO is expressly prohibited. ?

It's not as bad as it sounds.

You can still shoot that gun in any IPSC match.

You'll just be in Open Class, with all of the other single-action guns with optics.

Thanks Bob, Explains why 1911's aren't in production. I'm not looking to compete with it, I have a gun for that already. It's just that I can't use the SIG if I ever wanted to and I didn't understand the reason for the exclusion.
Dexter-If I ever want to shoot open, Freedom will be getting an order for yet another STI for my safe!

A shiny new STI DVC 2011 for your 2018 season perhaps? :)

Well if you ever want to shoot your SIG in competition you can always shoot it in IDPA ESP Division. It would work there and with a RMR sight in IDPA Optic division too.

The open DVC? I need to get a lot better before I go down that rabbit hole. My wife has the DVC LTD and myself the 3 gun.

We love our 2011's! :) 2 full sets of MBX 9mm mags though, $$$$$.

As for IDPA, maybe but not in the foreseeable future. My wife wanted/is getting into ICORE so there are 2 929's awaiting transfer as we speak.

Scuba trips won't be the summer vacation pastime anymore. Which is OK, our last mega pacific trip this summer was lackluster considering where we went, the planet isn't in good shape.

I do have to say while it will never (EVER) happen, there should be IPSC games in those Ontario travel TV ads. We are traveling all over the province to attend matches! But we are the wrong, race, colour, ###uality and religion to be in the latest batch of OntarriiiOOooo commercials.

lol, STIs sure ain't cheap! You can pay for an exotic scuba trip with some of 'em! :p

Yeah, I'm not anywhere ready to jump to Open myself. Might tinker with Classic and Standard next season.

Well, I've been living down in the Turks & Caicos for the last month and a half so far. The water hasn't gotten back as clear in over a month. Heck, I haven't even bothered taking my snorkel gear to the beach 'cause it's pretty cloudy. It's only now starting to clear up. I had a nitrox course scheduled for this week but ended up cancelling it. Ah well.

Might run into you at some of next year's IPSC matches.

No need to cancel the nitrox course as it's all classroom anyway. Someone else told us that it could take a while for the seas to clear, we are going down to Cozumel in Dec. It's been a few years since we've done T&C. We've been to Beaches twice when our son was young, then 2 weeks Salt Cay & Provo then the next year GT. Fun times.

See you for sure in 2018!

Glock 34 with a Trijicon Type 2 RM06 on top sounded like a good birthday present. Not sure why the 34 is not allowed in Production, but hope I can use it in the Production Optics next summer. The RM06 is sitting on my desk waiting for the 34 to arrive tomorrow. Can you say 'Weekend Project'?

I for one would love to use my GLOCK 40 (10mmAuto) in standard gun, but alas it will not fit in my fquing IPSC box..... unless i cant the gun at a 45 degree angle which is not really legal...

Given that the provisional rules are clear the gun must be on the approved production gun list you are going to be SOL. As far as the 34 not being Production legal this excerpt is copied from https://www.ipsc.org/rules/rules_faq.php

13. Can we use Glock models 34 and 35 in Production Division?

Glock in their own advertising call them "long slides". They are special sporting handguns with a lighter trigger pull (3.5 lbs) and a longer barrel (135mm) out of the box. Maximum barrel length in Production Division is 127 mm (5").

The Production Division does not include special sporting models like the Glock 34 and 35, or the H&K USP Expert, or the Sig Sauer Sport II series if they differ in barrel length from the standard model (Glock 17, Sig Sauer 226, H&K USP).

"Production" does not necessarily mean that all pistols which are currently in production are legal for use in this division.

sniperone the first thing if you intend to play in a shooting sport is to find out what the equipment rules are BEFORE you buy the gun, not after. Your G 34 would be legal in USPSA Production Optic and IDPA Optic but it is a fail for IPSC Optic unless there is a change in the rules and I doubt that is going to happen.

If you do mount the RMR on the G 34 you might want to invest in a lighter recoil spring. The additional weight of the RMR on the slide has caused issues with some guns. I know my CZ New Edition slide is very sluggish. The gun has not jammed yet but it would not take much effort on my part to induce a FTF.
