TNW Aero Survival Rifle in 10 mm Owner Opinions

Hello,

I'm a fan of the 10 mm cartridge. Looking into a carbine style handy rifle in 10mm. The TNW Aero Survival Rifle has caught my interest but there is not allot of non-biased real reviews. Just the usual rederict from gun sites and authors with questionable information. I know the earlier versions had feed ramp issues which related into jamming problems but has since been remedied. For those of you who own this carbine what are your opinions?

I owned one for a while. It was reliable with everything I tried but 135grn bullets. You would have to ease the first round in then it would usually cycle fine with the occasional hangup. It handled the cartridge surprisingly well. Even my hottest loads saw very little case expansion. My biggest complaint was the dual ejection port. With ball powder loads it would pelt your face with unburnt powder. The stock trigger is also total garbage.

I did read your review. It's one of the few non I read where TNW did not supply the rifle for review which to me is much more credible. I thought yours was possibly part of the first batch that had minor issues? If you don't mind me asking why did you sell it?
 
I love mine though I haven't shot alot of 10mm out of it yet, mostly .40s&w with spare barrel. It hangs up once in a while with .40 but nothing too bad. I polished the trigger and removed some material so there isn't so much take up, much better now. I've also installed the shroud adapter and an ar15 handguard in the .40 barrel.

Nice looking! Is that a folding rear site? If so what do you use for a front site?
 
I have astigmatism so the red dot on my eotech apears starburst . When looking through the aperture the red dot is nice and sharp, great for making precise shots. That's really the only reason I have it on.
 
Fired my 10mm asr for the first time today, no complaints. Functioned flawlessly and the cases looked fine, no bulges. These were hot reload, and the recoil was a lot more noticable than when firing 9mm. I am super excited about it. Can't wait to load up more nuclear loads and take it out again.
 
A guy at work bought one recently, and let me out a few mags through it. As mentioned, the trigger sucks. It also feels a bit cheap with all the spring noise that you can hear and feel when shooting it. Other than that it's a cool little gun. He did order the optional trigger from TNW, so it will be interesting to see how much that improves it.

I've only ever handled and fired the 9mm version, it was ok, they are fairly reliable and are nice and light. I hated the trigger though, it was terrible.
I love the 10mm cartridge but I hope you are a hand loader because factory offerings are pretty much 40S&W loads in a 10mm case.

If the price was right and there was a way to improve the trigger I'd probably buy one but I can also definitely live without one.
 
I do reload. I love the 10 mm cartridge. Buffalo Bore actually has some really good wilderness defense loads in 220 gr. Moving about 1200 fps and 700 ft. Lbs. Energy.

Seems like the match trigger is a must!

Any one try that skeleton forearm?

I see the .22LR kits are finally being produced seems to me to be another must have for this set up.
 
The other issue with the trigger beyond creep and grit, is how close it is to the grip..... it feels a bit cramped to me.
The ASR's can be a bit finicky for sure,

Percussion, good to hear that your first range trip with the new 10mm barrel went well!

Hopefully I will get a chance to test mine soon......

It can't hurt
I can't understand why they don't offer a different trigger profile or an optional trigger shoe that's a bit wider and pushes the trigger forward a bit.

I like how the new handguard offerings lock in place, once set they offer the bonus of acting as a stop to keep the barrel nut from coming loose.

I ordered the match trigger a few months ago and finally got the chance to put it in. The only difference I can see from the kit I received is that they gave me a standard replacement trigger with upgraded springs. I'd suggest saving the money and just upgrade your springs.
