I am trying to track down a Cooey 84 are there any dealers currently selling one?

I have looked but have not found any. I am already watching the EE but none have come up in a while.

They haven't been made in a long time. Just be patient and one will show up sometime. Maybe list on the want to buy.

Had two on EE a couple of years back. One sold and the other one ended up back in my locker. One was for $80 and the other $140, guess which one sold? Lol. The one I have left is a true Cooey 84 in good condition. No cracks, bulges and everything works as it should. Strong ejection, full choke on a 28" barrel and the case hardened receiver still show nice colour. However, it is missing the front bead. Doesn't seem like there is a strong market for 84s lately and if someone PM me and offers what I was asking a couple of years ago, I would seek it.

Just a reference to the model 84/840. The model 840 came out after Winchester took over. The early 840's might be the same as an 84. The later ones however are not the same gun. So it all depends on what you are looking for. If you want a gun that just says Cooey and not Winchester on it, then you want the original model 84. Model 84's usually don't have trouble selling if they are in nice condition and the price is within reason for the gauge.

The answer everyone in one post.

I am wanting 12ga

Not every one has one in the closet. Where as most of you have been gun owners for 26 years I have been alive for 26 years.

I am looking for good condition 84. I want it to have the Cooey logo and made in Canada with no serial number, because having no number is a fun way to say suck it liberal.

This will be my one and only shotgun at least for now. It will suit all current needs.

They're out there. Not kidding, but I just honestly picked up a Cooey 84 (pre 1961) 12ga this afternoon. Read post #7 again, or try the EE and post a wanted ad.

Love my 84 in 20 gauge 2-3/4 First gun I ever refinished, and she has a history of a lot of food on the table!!! Blues and Ruffies!!!

Love it. I know the value is only 200.00 at best, but it's not leaving me until I am gone.

You need to haunt the gun shows. I see them regularly in Saskatchewan and Alberta shows.
If you are going to pay a premium price, you should expect premium condition - more so in 12 gauge, which is the most common.

I’ve been wanting to do something similar to a beater 840 that I picked up. Barrel was already shortened to 19” so I’d like to find an old Poly-Choke and install it.

Possibly upgrade some of the better quality parts from an 84. Not sure what’s different though.

Practical? Not from a financial standpoint but you’ll have functional shotgun set up the way you want it.

Since the thread got revived.

I ended up getting a H&R topper made in Canada. Not very many of these out there it seems

I am very happy with it. Very good quality for 150 bucks

I have no experience with those H&Rs, but had an 84 in .410 for a very long time and IT never grew on me. Eventually let it go about 5 years back but always thought a 20ga would be more useful. Took me about 2 days to find one in the EE so I picked one up back in the summer. I really like the thing and at the price have toyed with the idea of refinishing it. Since that won't make it shoot any better...those plans on are on semi-permanent hold. I do search "Cooey" in the shotgun EE every few weeks though...thinking I might find a 20 or 28ga at a great price, in great condition with highly figured wood. :)

Yeah...too much fresh air lately. :)
