I am a serious hunter and not a reloader.

Is there anyone in Canada who is famous for developing loads for guns where I could send things to have custom ammunition made for my guns?

Also, someone who loads 2 1/2 inch low pressure shotgun shells for vintage british shotguns?

excuse my ignorance on the subject.

Unfortunately, it's not legal for someone to sell their reloads, even if you commissioned them.

The best person to make customized ammunition is you. It is not rocket science, nor is it difficult.

That said, it does require patience, a methodical approach, focus, and attention to detail. If that's you, then welcome to a whole new hobby.

If it's not, then maybe try Federal Match ammo, or similar. It likely won't be as good as handloads, but you might luck out.

What calibres?

Correct me if I am wrong, but anyone with an ammunition manufacturing license can do a custom production run of ammunition and sell it.

To AR15Meister,

I highly doubt you will find anyone with a license to manufacture ammunition for commercial resale that would be willing to do a custom ammunition run for you, at least not at a price that any normal person would be willing to pay. I doubt you would be willing to buy a batch of ammo large enough to even make it worth their while, unless you were offering to pay 10 times or more the normal market rate for ammo.

For $100,000 flat fee, I will create a business, obtain the license, and help you with whatever you need. If you are interested, send me a PM. Its a genuine offer. But be warned, I am not famous for reloads.

Every load that a commercial reloader sells has to be submitted to the governing organization and approved. It’s a long process with costs involved.

The issue for commercial loaders is an economy of scale. I have a Camdex Loader in 9mm sitting in the shop. Can run 4400 rounds an hour all day. The issue is unless you have $100,000 in components sitting in the shop ready to go, it isn't even worth hitting the power button on it. It consumers $1,000 an hour in components, so in a production environment where the machines run 20 hours a day 6 days week, I would end up with a material bill for $480,000 for one month.

There is money to be made in boutique cartridges and loads, however, NRCAN, our limited supply in Canada and limited market space kind of makes it a crap shoot.

For things like .26 Nosler and .308 your best bet is to buy the equipment like a Dillon 550 and call it a day.

Kent or Eley both load 2 1/2" that should be perfectly safe to use in a gun that is IN PROOF. In other words, if the gun was originally proved for the load, or sent back for re-proof, these factory loads should be fine.

It can be a bit difficult to source. Try Ellwood Epps, Orillia. There were a few threads on this subject in the shotgun forum if you do a search.

I contacted Kent for some 2 1/2" loads in 28 ga. They connected me with a business in Alberta who had purchased a few cases. It's worth contacting them.

.26 Nosler
.308WIN

And 2 1/2 inch shotgun shells.

I can't speak to the .26 Nosler or the shotgun, but I reload for .308 both for my bolt action and semi-auto. Lots of options for powders, bullets, etc if you go that route.

But as mentioned, for your .308 there's always Federal Gold Medal Match. Kinda pricey, though.
