Hi all,

I ran out of Hoppe's no9 solvent during my last range visit. *I know, how irresponsible of me!*

Visited a local shop (Dante's in Mtl) and the sales guy recommended g96 solvent instead. I've heard of others recommending it also, but heard it was crazy strong stuff.

Can anyone else confirm what I've already heard? Should I neutralize the solvent with a patch of rubbing alcohol and followed by a dry patch? (As recommended by the sales guy). Figured if this stuff is crazy strong and I don't want to use it every time I go to the range (weekly), I could keep it for a deep cleaning every few hundred rounds or less?

Also, do you guys store your firearms (short or long term) lubbed or dry?

I tend to store mine wet, and run a couple dry patches before every cold bore shot.

Side note: I am aware the are as many opinions on this, or any, forum, as there are members, but looking for a post from someone who uses the stuff.

Looking forward to mining you all for knowledge and experience.

Mining me .......... huh?.................

G96 izz tres gooder tuh yewse.
Fluid Film too.
Butt, G96 tastes more better awn jellatoe.

Smells bettermint too.

Typing oh smells, ware'd that tread go?

I use that $*** on everything! G96 is my go to all purpose cleaner from shotguns to pistols. I think of it as the wd40 of the gun world. For lubing and barrels I use stronger and more specified stuff but for day to day cleaning g96 is my go to.

Lord Tunderin Geez uz what have you been up to this morning?
Buy some G-96 to tide you over till you can find Hoppes No9.
some agencies demand that only Hoppes No9 be the OLNY solvent used on the Crowns Firearms.

Love G96, have used it since I was a child. My first 10/22... never stopped since. It's great stuff I use it on all my guns from cleaning to long term storage.

Solvents are neutralized with oil. I use the G96 solvent, wipe it, then apply the G96 protective gun oil, and store the equipment in a moderately oiled condition.

This guy is worth listening to, in general.

I like G96 oil, use it on most of my firearmss except my AR, I find that it's too thin, I prefer M-Pro7 instead.

But honestly I never try the solvent, might give it a go.

My favorite bore cleaner is Bore Tech ELIMINATOR BORE CLEANER or Copper Remover, I have been using it for a while, it's working great plus I can buy in a big bottle like 16oz.

Deer Lawrd...............sniff'in thet thar see-'air agin?

I don't think you need to worry about "neutralizing" any bore solvent, but it probably wouldn't hurt to run an oiled patch through the bore to protect against corrsoion.

The G96 milspec stuff if great, the regular stuff is so-so, but it's cheap at least.
Balistol is my new non-toxic best friend CLP. Stinks like hell though.

Have no experience with Ballistol. I'll have to give it a try before inform an opinion.

I'll try it next time I run out of solvent.

Another question came to mind, do you guys use one piece rod or segmented?
