Maccabee Defense SLR information and updates

I'm out, it's over priced. A grand for a stripped upper and lower, ouch! This seems to be a reaccurring theme with non restricted guns in Canada lately.

At 1k I'm out. Woulda bought at least 2 at 600 though.

yup me too man, even 650 for one would be reasonable and i'd be in for sure.
I don't wanna hack on this thread, i said my piece. Maybe i just need to carve up my own hunk of non restricted aluminum and submit it for FRT :D

Assuming every part from an AR is compatible with these recievers, it might be a fun excercise to price and "build" a few different types of rifles here. For instance, a "standard banger" that coudl be put together with as little cash as possible. A high end deluxe model for the rollers, and a middle of the road one that many will gravitate to.

While I've swapped parts out on many AR's, I've never started with just a lower and upper and gone from there, so I'm interested in hearing what some of you guys come up with.

I know I'm leaning towards a fairly light rifle in 30 RAR, after learning more about this cartridge recently here on CGN. And even though I have other, non restricted 5.56, I'll want one too, and hopefully they will offer uppers seperately as well in the future so a guy can just swap uppers.

The 30 RAR uses a larger barrel extension and bolt than a AR15. It is kind of an odd ball that way. Do a google search, some people have done it in the US using bolts / barrel extensions from AR15performance.com. There seems to be mixed opinions on weather it is safe or not in a AR15 sized upper receiver. They have also discontinued the 30 RAR bolts as well.

Ahh, ok, good to know. Thanks

For guys that just want a NR that shoots 55gr bullets there is this option, too:

Buy the Macabee reciever set $1000 + Can Am $600 20" AR15, swap out all the parts and you are ready to roll for $1600. May not be pretty but I'm sure it's minute of coyote. :)

Sell the upper and lower for $100 and you are down to $1500 :)

I think my noveske 18 inch spr barrel is actually 18.5 inches. I'll have to measure it again.
its for sale on the ee and no one wants to buy it, I guess I wont sell it now.

Since you know exactly how much a clean sheet design NR upper/lower should sell for why don't you design/develop/test your own, sell them for way less and make everyone else look stupid?

What makes you feel that $600 is a reasonable price, but $1000 is way too much?

That's the spirit.

I bet you aren't alone in having spare parts lying around!

I know I could put one together just by buying a few smaller parts, a barrel, gas tube and block and a buffer and tube. I have take off handguards, lower parts, spare BCG's etc.

Even without spare parts, I think someone could build a decent rifle for around $2000

Not going to judge the price until I see the quality of the receiver. Name brand quality stripped receiver sets are 800ish and restricted...
