Nothing wrong with the 7-08,... your only problem is poor ammo choice,.. there's a reason Winchester Deer Season, and Browning BXR is cheap,.. it's junk,..... go get yourself a couple boxes of good 140gr cup and core ammo. The X-bolt in 7-08 is an excellent deer rifle,.. you would be making a mistake to sell it.
What bullet would you recommend?
RJit's foolish to blame a cartridge when the issue could be bullet choice. the 144gr Browning BXR is a fast expanding bullet designed to open up easily on deer sized game

Underneath that huge polymer tip is a gaping hollow cavity. Of course the bullet is going to turn to shrapnel when it hits bone and muscle
NO KNOCK DOWN POWER AT ALL, they all ran and where next to imposable to find. My wife's rifle using HORNADY AMERICAN WHITETAIL 139g interlock did the same thing, TOTAL JUNK IMO.
The problem is that the X-Bolt rifling has a left-hand twist while most of the factory ammo is designed for a right-hand twist. You either have to go to your local gun store and demand left twist cartridges or learn how to reload. If you go the reload route .308 diameter bullets run through a .284 sizer die should work well.
oh my god, that's goodWhat bullet would you recommend?
I just bought a 7mm08 and I absolutely hate this cartridge. I shot mule deer this year and one white tail and every shot even though placed broadside, the bullets ended up through the guts? WTF is that all about? one mule deer was shot through the top half of the heart, broadside and the bullet turned and went down through the guts. Not one deer went down but ran so far it took me forever to find them and when I did I found that all the bullets where turning and going out the guts on the other side. FOR SALE, ONE BROWNING X-BOLT 7mm08, brand new.
I guess it is a Saskatchewan thing... I have been using Hornady 139 and 154 grain very successfully for 50 years... my bullet of choice to this day...
You obviously didn't understand this post dude. I don't hate the rifle, I hate the caliber it is in, it must be a BC thing with you AH. Go look at the x-bolt, very nice rifle.A $1200 X-bolt must be a Saskatchewan thing as well.... Especially if it sucks, let me grab my wallet.....
Got any pics of the rifle
maybe you should try and get me banned from the forum for being such a bad violator LOL. I put the rifle up for sale after I submitted my post. GET A LIFE DUDE.I am pretty sure the purpose of this thread in the first place was to promote the OP's rifle which is for sale on the EE. I would bet the moderators are looking at this thread to see if it may be in violation of the forum rules.
That's funny , I'm so pissed with this rifle caliber because it is such a wimp. no blood trail at all to follow. I'm going back to the more deadly effective 300 SAVAGE witch I have never lost an animal. Also going to start using my 35 REM. These two cartridges will be way more effective than the 7mm08 out to 300 yards.
