Revolver thoughts

If you want a ###y revolver, get the Smith. If your looking for an old school, true classic revolver, a Smith fits the bill. On the other hand, if you just want something with a really nice trigger that shoots super smooth, you might wanna think about getting a Smith. But, if alls you want is something to feed 38's and 357's reliably at the range or elsewhere, I'd recommend the Smith.

I really think S&W has lost that former class. Beware of unsolved warranty issues. Like two years waiting to use your Performance Center .500 for the second time because of parts needed to repair a barrel shroud component. All of this to save pinning the barrels on assembly line. SOOOO all that money and twenty rounds in two years, 3 months. CLass??

And if you want all this and the option to swap barrel lengths, get a Dan Wesson. ;)

Hey now no need to get rude lol! I've got a 608 that is accurate and shoots well. I'll thank you not to make light of my handicap lol.

Truth be told, my Taurus gets cylinder lockup with American Eagle ammo. Otherwise it shoots great. It's balanced well, very accurate, and fits my big hands quite well with the factory grips.

However, maybe someone in the know can tell me - I heard Taurus is no longer selling in Canada for some reason.

For me, there was a difference in size on SOME 686es. Maybe the lack of finger grooves made them feel thinner for me. I have big hands so it was more of an issue for me than it will be for most. I opted for the GP100 in part because it just sat more comfortably in my hand. Overall though, I'd agree they're roughly the same size.

Now, I'm stuck deciding if I should bother with Hogue Goncalo Alves grips for vanity purposes, or just stick with the basic recoil-absorbing rubber.

For a few more sheckles, there is also the MC version of the GP100 - comes with some nice factory upgrades such as (very comfortable) wooden grips, shimmed hammer, some polished internals, adjustable sights including fibre optic front, and a half underlug for a bit lighter weight. Stock DA was still a bit heavy but a set of $10 Wilson Combat springs fixed things nicely there - and the Ruger is a piece of cake to work on to do such yourself.

Well gee whiz, thanks a lot! You gotta go and post up this beauty. So I walk into my local store (also my range) a cpl days ago, and low and behold, there’s one hanging on the wall. So of course I make the mistake of picking it up. Fell in love. Went back today, & it’s $200 off for Black Friday sale....... so I bought it. And it’s all your fault!
Seriously though, it’s my first revolver (3rd handgun since I got my rpal in August), and I’m looking forward to trying it out!

Yah your right, but most firearms companies have lost their class. It's the new age of pumping out cheap mass produced garbage for the millenials who don't care about well produced craftsmanship. For all the crappy new revolvers Smith is putting out, it still has the classic line. You have to give them some credit for that, pinned barrels, recessed cylinders and internal locks aside.

OP only gave two choices, and for me that's a no brainer. The best models of smith are the 19, 29 and possibly 586. However there's alot of other good models aswell. Then there's the other DA revolvers worth buying, Dan Wesson, Korth Combat, Manurhin mr-73 and let's not forget the prettiest girl at the ball, the gorgeous Colt Python.

Am looking at grabbing a revolver in the very near future
My choice are ruger go 100 or sp101 or the SW 686

357 is what I am going with

Wahts your thoughts on the choices and are there any others I may not know about

My hands are of the smallish side and I don’t have the luxury of trying anything firsthand unfortunately

I just bought a Ruger new model Blackhawk in .357 single action 4.62" barrel stainless...Can't wait to get my hands on it...I like my double actions but I thought it time for a change and I really like the looks of the Ruger single actions...I've owned several double action pistols including Rugers the GP100 and Redhawks, plus the Smith 629, model 27, 586 etc...they are all very cool guns. I currently own a Smith 686 in 4.2" or whatever it is lol...I love em all. Plus I have two Sig semi's a 9 and a 45...Can't wait to get the Blackhawk though...Something different...Yippeeiokiyay eeehah.
