Newbie Shooter, Night Force Scope??

I like the idea of a scopes range starting low, and going up to a decent magnification.
So I chose a Bushnell Elite 6500 2.5 - 16 x 50 & a Sightron STAC 4 - 20 x 50.

Another vote for the NXS 2.5-10X42. The FC-3G reticle on the 1-4 has a centre dot that's too big past 300 yards. Also, parralax is fixed at 75 yards. I've owned every scope in the NXS line in terms of magnification. I no longer own a 1-4, but I now own 2 of the 2.5-10x42. In terms of features and versatility, they are by far my favorite in the NXS line.

I second the suggestion on the NXS Compact 2.5-10x42 for an all around scope, reticle of your choosing. The Trijicon 1-8 Accupower suggested earlier is a great scope as well, the only downside is due to the FFP, the reticle gets a little large for my liking if you are just punching paper at the higher magnifications.

The reticle size/subtension remains constant throughout the magnification range. What the reticle covers at low power it also covers at high power.

Yep. That’s FFP. With the Trijicon 1-8 Accupower the center cross is 4moa x 4moa with a width of .75moa. So if it is being used at longer ranges for precision work it isn’t ideal. Don’t get me wrong I love the scope and for hunting or other purposes it’s great but just letting the OP know that for an “all-around” scope there may be better options out there.

The cross from tip to tip is 4 MOA, the line width is 0.75 MOA so at 500 that's 3.75 MOA or about 4" of target coverage at 500, that's a pretty small area of coverage. The MIL version gives you about 3.45" of coverage at 500. Not many rifles, ammo, and shooters can keep their shots inside 0.75 MOA at 500 yards.

Not sure what the OP defines as all around, my bet is more field use than target use. If that's the case he won't be disappointed with the 1-8 Trijicon but I agree with others that a 2-10 might be a better choice as it gives just a little more flexibility.
