Side by Side Atv

Honda Pioneer 500, have had it 2 1/2 years perfect for our needs. Not a mud buggy but capable, I like that it has a transmission, but others disagree and like cvts.
Have a plow mounted and do the driveway in the city in 5 minutes..lol

When I first got my RZR I wasn't sure if I would like it as much as a quad but after owning it for the last seven years I wouldn't part with it. It plows my driveway, hauls my firewood around the place and goes anywhere my quad would. I put a two inch lift, wheel spacers and slightly bigger tires. Its a great, comfortable rig for hunting and fishing, and just fun to drive. Now a heater and doors would be a great addition.

If I was only 6"2 I might still own a car, 6"6 doesnt sound that much bigger but it makes a big difference in cars and sxs
 
for the acreage I have a Kioti Mechron, real beast, diesel powered with a cvt transmission, just about goes anywhere with a bench seat for 3 adults and dump box payload 1000 pounds, down side max speed is just over 20MPH

at the lake I have a Kawasaki Mule, 4x4, its a neat side by side, narrower than the Kioti but again has the bench seat, still 23MPH nit a fast machine but goes anywhere, CVT transmission and high/low range, the deal for me is the bench seat over the buckets, you can get in either side with ease, the grandchild can sit between me and the wife for a run around the lake, tried the sportier machines but getting in and out the bucket seat is a real pain for myself and I do not need 40 plus MPH and like the Kioti it can carry 500 pounds with ease in the dump box
 
Following this thread. I need either an A TV or SxS by next summer.

I have a Mercedes GLK and live in north GTA Ontario
I need to put a hitch on it and I plan to go the SxS route as well. Would be looking at the used market.
Would have to be capable of travel on fairly rough trails with water that typically goes up to about 12-16 inches with chance of more on the way to camp. Would be for hunting and for trips into the hunt cabin with gear. Passengers would be my buddies and 6yo. Main use would be in and out of the hunt camp. I'd like an area to store my gear on the back negating need to tow a trailer, but if like to be able to.

What should I look at/or rule off brands/models
What would be the typical trailer .measurements I should look for?
Has anyone used a wireless breaklight unit? Reliable?
Know any good garages that can fit me with a hitch? Benz quoted me a silly sum.

I just barely fit in my buddy's CanAm but I've never taken it into the bush to see how it handles. I was into some bush with my buddy's 600 HO to drag my deer out two weeks ago and I'm not sure a sxs would be much fun in that bush. The trails in there are just wide enough for a quad and I'm not sure that I want to widen 10 miles of trail just to get into camp. In open country I would quite enjoy a UTV but out here in this thick ####e I think I'll have to stick with a quad.

My hunting partner has a 2013 Polaris ranger 500. My opinion is that it isn't that great of a machine. Engine braking is horrible. Lacks power and speed. Frame is better suited for 850cc. Too wide and the seating arrangement is a bench. Hes had a few problems with overheating and stalling from very little work. It's 4x4 systems is pretty good and it's payload is impressive. They are better suited working around the farm or ranch compared for using it hunting.

The Yamaha rhino is a much better machine. Better engine braking, Better handling, Better seats, and a much more reliable engine even if you have a 450 or 700.
 
This 09 Rhino has the four wheel and four wheel lock positions.
In lock, all four turn at the same time.
Makes for some serious gitt'in yer arse stuck if you're into it.

so far the wolverine seems to be a good unit, good reviews and good price point. capable of some speed which I think will be important for me. once I tow it to the end of the hardtop there will be many places where I will want to make some time. this time of year is wet and cold so an enclosed cab will be necessary. wolverine has that option, just wondering how loud they are inside cab?

They are not too loud with the engine right aft. At low to moderate speed you can speak to your partner at normal levels. They also have a large fuel tank so you don't have to always be packing gas with you. I have the folding windshield and soft rear window which really helps in winter. With the windshield down it keeps the dust out in summer.
 
I have a Yamaha Rhino 700. Being a great machine. Upgraded from a 1999 Honda 450ES back in 2014. I have 2 young boys and they wanted to come out with dad. My machine has a rear roll cage and seat for the back. It came fully setup as I bought it of my friend - his personal machine and he is a Yamaha dealer.

I would look into the Yamaha Viking (3 seater) or Wolverine (a bit sportier 2 seater or the new 4 seater just released this fall).

Our moose camp group are driving Rhinos or Vikings. Helps one on the guys in our group is a Yamaha dealer. Been bullet proof machines.
