As the title states, where do you all prefer purchasing your .223 ammo from? I just ordered my first AR and I want to find somewhere that I can get the most bang for my buck, I’m thinking that I’ll probably be buying in bulk as I don’t want to be ordering ammo non stop. So yeah just let me know where you guys feel like you get the best deals! PS: I’m aware of reloading and I plan to start doing that when I live in a place big enough to have a work bench :)

Like 9mm, I always buy in bulk. Check out gotenda.com (site sponsor) as they have some great deals. XMetal is pretty good too. Check Cabelas as well. They have their Remington Freedom bucket onsale right now for $129.99. What many don't realize about Cabelas, is when you buy something and take the survey at the bottom of the receipt, you get $20 off the next purchase over $150. So, I bought 3 pails of 300rds each in store, ($129.99x3-$20x1.13) which is $418. That works out to .46c a round. Pretty decent for .223/5.56. Since you are in AB, even less if you don't have to pay PST.

Another tip, hold onto those receipts and use the survey when you need it, as the coupon is only good for 30 days after you submit for it.

Didnt know that about the 20 bucks off for a survey at cabelas.

Ammo are expensive to ship. Shipping 200-500 rounds can cost you $50-60.
So, if you take that into consideration, sometimes it best to wait for your local shop to go on sale and then make your purchase....

From here on out, I'll be buying my 556 from tenda with their great pricing. I'll typically buy in large quantities once or twice a year that way i don't get gouged on pricing.
Also, depending on where you live, this is a great place to organize group buys with local guys as well.

Wasp Munitions in Sylvan Lake. Good prices, good quality. Have been using their ammo for approx. 3 yrs.

Awesome, thanks guys. I’ll have to check out the places that have been mentioned, unfortunately the closest my town has to a local gun shop is a Canadian tire and the prices seemed pretty steep for .223

Ya, most people tend to ignore those surveys on receipts, myself included, but with Cabelas I have used it for boots, tree stands etc. Stuff I was going to buy onsale anyway, minus $20.
Never ignore that survey , also if buying more than $300 , split it up and take $40 off that's even better

Let’s keep it going guys. Thanks for all the feedback. Anyone can post about any good places they buy from even if it’s just a local shop. Other guys can get a good idea of maybe places near themselves to get good priced ammo! Also what grain do you guys go with and what is your reason?

No local deals at the stores around here, all the taxes business owners are paying keep the prices of everything way high. You should see how many businesses have closed recently here, freakin crazy!
