Wondering how much weight everyone slugs around the wilderness every season. I just weighed my M70 EW in 270WSM as it sits in the photo and she weighs in at 9 lbs even. Would love to shave a lbs off of it, was thinking of taking off the Viper 2.5-10 and the Burris steel rings and mounts and putting on a 2.5-8 VX3 and some Talley lightweight rings. might get me to 1/2 lbs maybe. A McMillen Hunter Edge would save me another 2/3lbs but not sure the expense would be worth it.

How much does your main, ready to hunt, rig weigh in at?

Ruger scout:

8.5lbs

M700

8.5lbs

My M70 EW weighs in at 8lbs even with a Leupold 2-7 and PRWs. (It will be getting a 3.5-10 soon)

I gave up trying to find a lighter rifle, I shoot the 8lb rifles better is just fine for me.

I don't know how much it weighs but I switched from a vx3 4.5x14x40 to a 2.5x8x36 vx3 and it feels like a world of difference. Overall for huntingI like the compact options. I have it on an m77 in .308

7lbs 10oz with sling
Remington 700 22" barrel 300wsm
Fluted bolt
Gretan lite firing assembly
Talley lightweights
Vx2 3-9
B&C Alaskan stock

It could probably get down to 7lbs without the boat anchor stock.

I'm not quite sure, don't have a scale around the house anymore. It's not light if I had to guess, 43 LB no.4 sporter and a full 10 Rd mag plus mount and scope. I'm used to it though and it's well balanced so that's a plus, one day I'll weight it and find out.

My Kimber 84L Montana 30/06 with a Swaro Z3 3-10x42 with Talley lightweights weighs in at 6lbs 5oz. Only 2 ounces more than my Montana 6.5 Creedmoor with a VX3 4.5-14x40.

Ruger M77RL (tang safety) 270 with Ruger steel rings and a VX1 comes in at 7lbs 11oz unloaded. My HVA 1600 in 270 with Millet aluminum rings and Burris Fullfield II hits the scale at 7lbs 2oz unloaded. Both are a real pleasure to carry in the bush.

Really? I'm very surprised the husky comes in that light. I've never handled one much but never thought of them as a light weight rig. I would guess my t3 synthetic with galleys and a elite 3-9 Would out me around 7.5#

The 1600 came with a light 20" barrel and a super trim and light factory hardwood stock. Without scope, mounts and rings its exactly 6lbs 2oz. I could problably lose those last two ounces if I ditched the iron sights but I would never feel right doing that. It's no wonder there is so much love in the HVA sticky here.

Howdee, I went through this recently after realising most guns are just too heavy to pack hunt with, I ended up with a Kimber Montana rifle, its around 6.5lb now with the current scope.

So in the past I had a Tikka T3 .308win , and earlier days a Abolt 300wsm aswell, I rekon these rifles are good weight for pack hunting and if I didn't have $1800+ to spend on a rifle, I would simply go for the Tikka T3 or Abolt or Rem mtn SS, I simply believe Rugers mk11 are too heavy for any more than 4 hours hunting :D

edit u can add Axis,Marlin XS7s which would fall in and under the Too heavy bracket... just. I'm rambling on a bit but some are heavy and some are light, I like light.

I put together a poorman’s LW rig this year that I’m pretty happy with.
Savage 111 LW Hunter in 30-06
with a Redfield Revolution 2-7X33 Scope
With scope and mounts tips the scale at 6 lbs 8 oz
Under $1000 all new components.

Was much nicer carrying through the swamps and brush this year compared to the heavier rifles I’ve used in the past.
