The GP-100 (bought off the EE) came with the usual Hogue grey rubber grips, which I really don't like the look of, alhtough they are functional. The SP-101 had the traditional Ruger squishy-rubber-with-inserts grips, which are comfortable but a bit small (as this is not a carry piece, LOL), even though I have medium-sized hands. They probably soak up recoil quite well but I don't load full-bore loads.

A while ago I found some nice rosewood grips for the SP-101 on eBay from a guy in Thailand named Jaruwan. These are just a bit longer than the stock grips. Ruger still have the "squishy grips" available for the GP-100 but for some reason you can't order them from shopruger.com unless you're "a US citizen or resident alien", even though they are not ITAR restricted, as far as I know. However, Altamont (who make them, as well as the wooden grips for S&W, I think) do sell to Canadians so I ordered a set of the "snakeskin" style. They are very comfortable, and just seem to feel and look right.

Fortunately I have an alternate US address so shipping was reasonable.

I also put a set of Pachmayr Presentation grips on my S&W Model 19, and I must say that, as beautiful as the original target grips are, I find the Pachmayrs really comfortable.

I had the Ruger grips that came with the GP100 originally, similar to your "snakeskin" version, but with smooth wood panels and they were OK. I thought I wanted Hogue rubber grips as i have them on my S&W revolvers and love them. When I got a Hogue rubber grip and put it on the GP100, i hated them. They were too large for my medium sized hands, but I found the Uncle Mike's rubber grips fit me perfectly and are the best of the bunch. Unfortunately, they are out of production, but used ones pop up occasionally and I got mine on the EE from a fellow CGN'er. ;)

I've heard oher positive opinions on the Mr. Mike's grips, afollowed naturally by the gripe that they've been discontinued. (Like the Ford Ranger- a successful product, so they discontinued it!) There was another popular rubber grip for the SP101 (and likely others) made by Trautsch, but apparently Mr. Trautsch had the temerity to shuffle off this mortal coil and there was no one ready to take over.

I'm pretty happy with the Altamonts on the GP100, though. Can't wait to get it to the range.

Good size comparison picture, the GP 100 is a tank next to the SP101.
The SP101 with Hogue grips fits me like a glove, If we could hike around the backcountry with sidearms..... like free people..... I'd probably carry the SP101 a fair bit.

I have the Hogues (rubber, not the nylon) for the SP101 as well and they're pretty good. Agreed about carrying a sidearm in the bush. Bloody ridiculous. Of course, down here you can't even take non-restricted into the bush now unless you're hunting, thanks to all the a**holes who shot up and left garbage everywhere, resulting in a 400m exclusion zone around every FSR. :(
