.224 Valkyrie thread.

I'd thought of it, mostly for the Maccabee SLR receiver set but when you really look at it hard, it really works out to be quite similar to the Grendel. There's a good thread on it over on Snipershide. I'll probably just end up sticking to .223 and eventually rebarelling my trainer bolt gun in .223 AI instead of .223, mainly to avoid trimming...

what's the parent case?

6.8 SPC, so in other words it is the 22 Lindahl Chucker or 22 Kilbourne Magnum Junior.

These cartridges are 75 years old, nothing new under the sun.

That said, a CZ 527 so chambered would be interesting, Federal has announced a 100 grain Fusion load.

Really? The article I read on Firearm blog had itbwiping the floor with 6.5 Grendel? More speed, less drop, still supersonic further. Did I misread - cause I’m pretty interested in the Valkyrie?

It is almost as long as a normal 308 rd :)

BUT now you know what these souped up 22's are going to offer for downrange whoopa$$

Still don't see them being viable at really long range when the wind blows.... my 223/90 combo should have kept up with the 308 at 1000yds. Not even close.

I figured, If you could I guess this round wouldn’t really be significant. Well I think I know what I’ll do with that second MacDef upper I ordered! Thanks Jerry, sorry coyotes. But I guess I’ll keep the MH for the windy days.

For coyotes, I'm interested, as it looks far more effective beyond 300 yards that standard 223. I'd like to see some FPS numbers with 53gr VMAX. Looks like the smallest factory offering is 60gr.

If they came with the 69gr TMK's then it would be a hammer on coyotes. :)

I would look at the SAAMI reamer print.. When you start off by using the heaviest possible bullet option as your showcase loading, I bet that throat is on the long side. May not be ideal for shorter bullets?????

but there are plenty of lighter bullet options that will also hammer very nicely. I think the 75 to 82gr family is where this chambering is going to excel. Having gone down the 90gr rabbit hole, I would much rather use a 75/82gr option from a 8 twist and have at it.

FYI, my 223 to 1 mile project went with an 80gr bullet.
