lowest 1913 mount for Trijicon RMR and MRO

Want to put a red-dot on a compact .308 bolt action with a pic rail and have narrowed it down to Trijicon RMR or MRO.

Looking to get it as low as possible. Noticed the Trijicon "Rail Mount Adapter" for the RMR and the "low mount adaptor" for the MRO

Any other suggestions to look at ? Available in Canada ?

The lowest rail mount for the RMR is the stock RM33 mount. Nothing else comes close.

MRO - the stock Trijicon low mount is probably the lowest as well.

Downside to both is no QD, but that might not matter to you. Also I think the smallest dot on the RMR series is 1 MOA (RM09), vs. the MRO with 2 MOA dot. I find the MRO is awesome on the AR platform - but the smaller form factor on the RMR will probably work better for a bolt gun.

That's useful information canucklehead, thank you.

Not too worried about no QD for this application.

I like the wider field of view on the MRO but yes you're correct, the 2 MOA dot is a question on it vs the RMR's 1 MOA.
 
Thanks mebiuspower, looks like it would be lower.

That's a consideration as well since I've love to not have to use a cheek riser on this. Trying to keep it simple.


Wondering if it would be worth while to go with the 12.9 MOA triangle on the RMR vs the 1 MOA dot and use top of triangle for aiming point ?
Or just stick with the 1 MOA dot ? I can see how the tip of triangle could be a bit more precise.

While I like, and use, the green triangle on my Benelli M4, I wouldn't say it would be great on a rifle. A small dot would be my preference.

Also what is the intended purpose of the rifle? Protection of some sort or hunting? Plinking?
 
It's mostly for trekking in the bush for protection. A lot of wolves & bears around here, too many. Have other dedicated rigs for hunting and target fun.

Point and shoot dot is probably way to go on this though, which is what you'd want for the intended purpose. I have a USO sn4s with a circle chevron on an M1A and the triangle tip is pretty useful, hence the question on the RMR triangle.

Too bad the dual-illuminated RMR's only have 9 MOA dot as the smallest. I like no batteries - especially if I may need to use it in a hurry and forgot to turn on my dot. :)
 
Update on this thread:

I purchased a 1 moa RMR and the Trijicon RM33 mount (0.768 inches above optical centreline). It went on a tricked out Remington 600 Mohawk .308. Worked great !!

Have to use a stock pack so the extra bit of height for say the Larue QD mount (optical centerline of the LT837 is .87" above the top of the rail.) wouldn't be a big deal but opted for the Trijion mount to keep things low as possible and rock solid.

No big deal to toss a torx key in the kit along with a battery anyway.

Makes this rig very fast and handy.

Now I gotta get it zeroed out to 200m and take it out to 300m to see how it performs with this sight. It's too bad I can't do 1/3 co-witness with the irons, just a little too high for that. Might end up zeroing it for a closer range given what this rig is for, have to experiment.
