I'm not sure what the little piece is, as my vanilla 550 Exclusive doesn't have that at the rear sling attachment, but I absolutely love the little deer tracks engraved into the metal. Beauty of a rifle!

I believe it's a trapdoor that hides a few extra rounds in the stock.
