ATRS MV-S “Sporter” - Stripped “AR” Non-Restricted Reciever

YOU were a large part of the reason we have kept quiet about what we have been working on for many months. Don't take this the wrong way. We learned that divulging info on projects still in the works can go completely awry, yet again.
The Sporter does NOT have an FRT yet and we are not finished testing so at the time of the call, I felt it would only create more issues. Then the competitor came out with their offering and a couple of clients who knew we had something in the works outed the project.

We still do not know IF the Sporter will get NR status, hence no pre-orders or hype. Yet

I really hope you comment isnt being directed at me here as I feel it is (haven't read of anyone else saying they new something was in the works), because I never said a damn thing until you outed your own project in the MV style upper/lower thread just days after Maccabee's announcement.

If I am geeting the wrong impression here, I apologise, but it seems like your pointing at me. I aint no blabber mouth, especially on sensitive topics.

It is a DIRECT variant ( yes I will play the variant game against them if need be), only some of the features and proprietary parts have been deleted or altered. The shape is the same and manner of mating is similar but different and less costly to make.
I am NOT going to get into all of what we have done different on a forum for obvious reasons.

Seems straight forward enough to me!

I cant wait to see what you have come up with when you are ready to show it. :)

If you were in Rick's shoes knowing that the guy already owns a Varmint model and has been hounding you for some time about a caliber that you do not support in your platform would it make much difference if he did say that an incompatible product is in the works.
The new MV-s upper/lower will not work with the Modern Varmint so why release info about a product in development before the company is ready to release info.
The way CGN members have been behaving lately I wouldn't have released any information until I had a NR FRT assigned and production was underway. Now all he's going to get is a bunch of calls and email about it asking silly questions that will just bog things down.

By his posts I am not under the impression the fellow complaining has a Modern varmint at all.

Given that he is quoting Epoxy7s post I would think he is aiming the comment in his direction. I don't take this as being negative, just using the experiences from the past when the MH was in its childhood as to what not to do this time.

And it was me who outed the project. I never thought it would create a problem and apologize it it has.

Gotcha. I hadnt realized you allready knew and were alluding to this project in your opening post. Even you really didn't out the project, myself and others took it as asking if rick would offer stripped MV OG lowers which we know the answer to already. Lol

Rick still had the option to say nothing was in the works, so its not like you showed everybody Ricks hand either.

Anyone know what handguard this is wearing?

When I first seen this picture in the other thread I had to ask the same question myself. I'm really liking it. All of this key-mod and m-lock stuff is over rated. I just want something that looks nice, I don't really care about hanging a bunch of crap off of it.

Found out it's a Midwest Industries Gen 2 SS series 12 inch.

I liked it so much I have one on order now. I'll find something to use it on.

Brian yes, Epoyx no
Not sure which complaints you are referring to.

If it was supposed to be a secret you should have been told or Rick shouldn't have said anything about it to anyone outside the shop employees and they should have been sworn to secrecy as well.

I don't know if was supposed to be kept secret or not. I just happened to be at the shop when the new project was being tested and had a breif glimpse of it. Not too much info was offered apart from it being something they guys have been working on for several months. They have a number of new projects in the works, some of which are of great interest to me. Dropping by the shop whenever I can sometimes reveals things they are not making public at the time.

If they are telling people openly in the store, then it is hardly a secret to be kept off the internet.

I think that its great that finally the NR market is being given options that are more affordable and reasonably priced. Not to offend anyone but honestly when a NR gun that offers nothing over a restricted gun that shoots identically at less then half the price and the only difference is the NR status that charging more then double the price is basically profiteering and now that finally we are starting to see options that conform to our weird gun laws and are being marketed for a price that can be considered reasonable its a great time to be a gun owner. I am sure after these first NR guns start really hitting the Canadian market and companies see how much interest there is we will get even more options and competition and that will be even better

I'm not sure if I would call it affordable, compare $900-$1000 for a MV-s stripped upper/lower with a NR tag to an Aero Precision upper/lower for $200 from Saskatoon Gunworks with a restricted tag it doesn't sound all that affordable.
I do think the MV-s will be a better quality receiver set but probably not $700-$800 better. It's still an expensive receiver set but one is a mass produced forged set selling to more than just the Canadian market and one is a CNC small batch set not being exported. That does raise the cost of production but it still seems pricey to me.
I'll still be buying one though :p

Because comparing a steeply discounted, mass produced low end AR15 lower/upper to a regular priced product that is not an AR, made by a small Canadian outfit is fair.... How much do you think Aero had to pay for R&D for their product that was designed by a different company like 60 years ago? Pretty close to nothing I'd bet...

I mentioned that in my comparison. It's not apples to apples, just comparing the price and the term affordable. There are a lot of guys on here that would have a hard time spending $1000 on a complete rifle let alone just a receiver set.
I'm very well aware of the quality of work ATRS does, I own a MH and will be buying the MV-s receiver set when they become available. I also won't be buying the set from the other company just because they will most likely hit the market ahead of the MV-s. When I buy from ATRS I know what to expect in both quality and also in after sale support so whenever possible I will buy their product ahead of others.

We are working on several new projects, none are really secrets, but the plan was to bring them out once we had FRT#s, but whatever, this project is now public knowledge.
We just hope the FRT goes well and quickly now.

I think this is an excellent strategy, don't announce anything until the FRT is granted and production is underway. Way less hysteria and time for garbage posts to pile up here, also probably keeps your phone lines and email folder cleaner so you can concentrate on production rather than answering the same questions over and over.
Thanks for all you've done for our community Rick and the rest of the staff, I'm looking forward to seeing what else you have brewing in the back room.

Less abuse from the haters and malcontents

Bwaah haa haa... this thread is great best comment is this one by ATR sir you hit the nail on the head with that one but you missed clueless whiner... :ang

I'm in if I can put this together with uppers in 6.8SPC spec 11 and 450 Bushmaster. :d

ATR I'll sit back and patiently wait for your info releases = no whining from me...

I'm glad that info on this has gotten out. I personally think that this will be a much better option than the MacDef unit with its fugly magwell and questionable takedown method. If I didn't know about the MV-S coming down the pike I may have jumped on the MacDef pre order. Glad I didn't because I'm going to wait and hope that the MV-S gets FRT approval soon.
